Preview of Michigan Football’s opponent, the Iowa Hawkeyes
Before the Big Ten Championship game, here are some essential facts about Iowa you should be aware of.

In the Big Ten Championship game on Saturday, Michigan and Iowa will square off in a rematch of the 2021 B1G Championship. The Wolverines dominated and prevailed 42–3.

The Wolverines are strong favorites going into the game, and a lot of experts don’t think Iowa will score much, if any, on the Michigan defense. The reason Iowa is 10-2 isn’t due to their offensive prowess. The Hawkeyes’ success has come from their defense and special teams.

Other than Penn State, Michigan will be the first top-50 offense Iowa has faced this season. Iowa was defeated 31-0 by the Nittany Lions this season.

With a relatively small roster, the Hawkeyes will take on the Wolverines. This season, Iowa has lost a number of important players, including Erik All and Cade McNamara, both former Michigan players. Cooper DeJean, a standout defensive back and returner for the Hawkeyes, is also absent.

Here are some important numbers and players to be aware of before Michigan and Iowa kick off on Saturday.

QB Deacon Hill: The man under center for Iowa is the former Wisconsin Badger. With Cade McNamara out for the season due to an injury, Hill was thrown into the starting lineup. It hasn’t been easy for Hill or the Hawkeyes’ passing offense. With 48.3% of his passes completed, Hill is 12th in the conference. He has thrown five touchdowns against six interceptions.

Leshon Williams, a running back, will probably try to exploit the Michigan defense for Iowa via the ground game. With 779 yards on the ground this season, Williams is ranked eighth in the Big Ten, but he has only scored one rushing touchdown. Williams gives Iowa an average of just over five yards per carry.

WR Nico Ragaini: If anything, Ragaini trails TE Erik All, who has only appeared in seven games this season, as the team’s second-leading receiver. This season, Ragaini has 227 yards and 0 touchdowns.

LB Jay Higgins: With 141 tackles this season, linebacker Jay Higgins leads the Big Ten. Higgins is a reliable option to wrap up the ball carrier because he is constantly near the football. Among the top linebackers in the nation is Higgins.

Cut Joe Evans:Despite Iowa’s strong defense, it isn’t the result of them sacking the quarterback. The Hawkeyes rank 92nd in the nation in terms of quarterback sacks, but Evans leads the team with 5.5 sacks. Evans leads the team in TFLs as well, with 9.5.

CBC Sebastian Castro: Cooper DeJean is Iowa’s best player, but Castro is possibly the best because of the injury he sustained. With three interceptions this year, he leads Iowa. With 52 tackles this season, the senior is fourth on the team.
