Texas Longhorns key player left for injury and he we not return…
Due to a shoulder injury, Texas quarterback Ewers is questionable to play against BYU.
Due to a throwing shoulder injury, Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers is listed as week to week by coach Steve Sarkisian on Monday. Maalik Murphy will probably start for the No. 7 Longhorns against BYU this week.
To get ready for the game, Murphy and star recruit Arch Manning will play a lot of snaps in practice, according to Sarkisian.
“Maalik would start if the game were played today,” stated Sarkisian. “Arch will be prepared to leave.”
After Ewers left the game in the third quarter of Texas’ 31-24 victory over Houston on Saturday, Murphy completed the game. When Ewers left the stadium, his right arm was in a sling.
Sarkisian did not provide information about the injury or an estimated time of return for Ewers.
Sarkisian remarked, “Some guys come back sooner than others with these injuries.”
During a drive in the third quarter, Ewers appeared to be hurt. He was sacked once and then took a hard hit to his left shoulder, landing on his right side.
Ewers can be seen rising from the ground with his right arm in the video of the second hit. Before leaving the game, he attempted two more passes.
According to Sarkisian, “He tried to play.” “He wasn’t feeling well on the last drive. To his credit, he was aware that he wouldn’t be able to finish.
This season, Ewers has passed for 1,915 yards and 13 touchdowns. He now has five touchdowns, two of which are from 29 and 30 yards, and has emerged as a running threat as well.
In the previous two seasons, Ewers has missed two games due to injuries. He missed that game on September 9 and the following three due to a sprained clavicle joint he suffered against Alabama.
Hudson Card, a veteran backup and former starter, was ready to step in for Texas last season, but he transferred to Purdue.
Against Houston, Murphy completed 1 of 2 passes for 7 yards and led the Longhorns on what proved to be the game-winning touchdown drive.
After receiving a redshirt as a freshman in 2022, Murphy managed to keep the No. 2 spot by fending off early enrollee Manning in the spring and summer. Murphy has only completed 4 of 8 passes overall in his four games in mop-up duty. Manning is yet to play.
Both were dubbed “elite competitors” by Sarkisian.
Maalik is an adept passer. Sarkisian remarked, “He throws a very beautiful ball.” “Every throw is something he can make.”

Maalik Murphy, Texas’ backup quarterback, may miss the Big 12 Championship game.
After the No. 7 Texas Longhorns defeated the Texas Tech Red Raiders 57-7 on Friday at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, head coach Steve Sarkisian gave an update on the injuries of senior cornerback Ryan Watts, freshman running back CJ Baxter, and redshirt freshman quarterback Maalik Murphy.
Arch Manning, the third-string rookie quarterback, entered the game late in the third quarter, replacing Murphy, who was noticeably absent from the sidelines for the majority of the second half.
Sarkisian disclosed that Murphy sustained an injury during senior running back Keilan Robinson’s 95-yard kickoff return touchdown to start the second half.
“It was unfortunate that Maalik was caught watching the game after Keilan’s kick return. We had to take him in and assess his injuries, as he appeared to have hurt his non-throwing shoulder.” With any luck, we can get him well again,” Sarkisian remarked.
Anwar Richardson of Orangebloods revealed on Sunday that Murphy might not make it to the Big 12 Championship game.
After a two-yard run up the middle later in the third quarter, Baxter went down on the field and walked slowly away. According to Sarkisian, Baxter sustained a hip pointer and left due to the
“After glancing at the scoreboard, we decided that Jaydon Blue, Keilan, Savion (Red), and Tre Weisner would be capable of handling us,” Sarkisian remarked. “I believe he could have returned, but we just made a coach’s decision to do that, so it was probably more of a coaching decision than anything else.”
The senior cornerback was sidelined for several minutes on the Texas Tech sideline following his injury, which occurred on the second play from scrimmage, before making his way slowly to the locker room.
“Ryan Watts sustained a minor back ailment, but further information will become available.” Sarkisian stated, “I just saw him in the locker room, and he’s in good spirits, so that’s a positive.”
