For fans of South Carolina football, the transfer portal cycle has been incredibly stressful, but during the last 18 hours or so, some positive news has finally begun to leak out. Tonka Hemingway, a senior defensive tackle, announced on Instagram on Sunday night that he was “running it back” for the 2024 season. His teammate, TJ Sanders, was officially signed on Monday morning by the University of South Carolina’s official NIL Collective, The Garnet Trust. In a sense, this announced that Sanders would be back for the 2024 campaign.
For the Gamecocks this fall, the South Carolina native had a breakout season. He finished with 43 total tackles, including 9.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks, and he also had four passes broken down. With defensive line coach Trevor Robertson providing him with full offseason coaching, Sanders is anticipated to assist Hemingway in anchoring the defensive line next season and possibly elevate his game even further in 2024.
