Ohio state Buckeyes interested in signing quarterback from transfer portal

Quinn Ewers, quarterback for Ohio State, accesses the transfer portalOh State quarterback Quinn Ewers is scheduled to depart Columbus on Friday after signing over $1 million in name, image, and likeness deals and playing just a few snaps.

Ewers was the top quarterback prospect in the class of 2022. He excelled at Southlake Carroll High in Texas. Following the issuance of a ruling permitting athletes to profit monetarily from their name, image, and likeness, Ewers reclassified to the class of 2021, enrolled at Ohio State in August, and became eligible to begin signing deals.

Following freshman CJ Stroud’s eventual departure for the NFL, the freshman was expected to start at quarterback for the Buckeyes. He took advantage of several NIL deals, including a three-year, $1.4 million contract with GT Sports Marketing in August. He did not play a role for the Buckeyes on the field.

Most of the nation’s top programs had extended offers to Ewers at Southlake Carroll. In October 2020, he withdrew his initial commitment to Texas.

Earlier this week, Devin Brown, a 4-star quarterback from Utah in the 2022 class, committed to Ohio State.

In college football, the first offseason transfer portal window has now closed.

On January 18, a recently created 45-day window for players to add their names to the portal closed.

More than 1,800 people entered the portal, causing a flurry of activity throughout the sport, according to the recruiting website On3.

At Ohio State, there were comings and goings. Over the course of the more than six weeks, nine Buckeyes—five of whom were scholarship players and four of whom were walk-ons—accessed the portal.

In addition, Ohio State added a walk-on and five scholarship players to its roster, creating the biggest class of incoming transfers since the portal’s launch in 2018.

Transfers who are not graduates and want to be eligible right away must wait until the first two weeks of May to access the portal.
