Florida State Seminoles announce departure of six players.

A standout running back for Florida State undergoes season-ending surgery
In the Orange Bowl, the top four rushers for the Seminoles won’t be present.

A number of players have left Florida State’s running back room since the regular season and ACC Championship ended. When the Seminoles play in the Orange Bowl, the unit will appear entirely different because Trey Benson (NFL), Rodney Hill, and CJ Campbell are no longer with the team.

On Saturday, at least one more running back will be absent from the starting lineup. A representative for FSU has informed NoleGameday that redshirt junior Lawrance Toafili will be sidelined for the remainder of the season due to surgery. As a result, five of the top six rushers and the top four rushers for the Seminoles will be absent in South Florida.

After rushing 69 times for 463 yards and four touchdowns on the ground during the season, Toafili was the team’s top remaining rusher. In addition, he caught 21 passes for 186 yards and one more touchdown. After rushing ten times for a career-high 118 yards and the game’s lone touchdown, Toafili was named the ACC Championship MVP.

Redshirt juniors Caziah Holmes and Ja’Khi Douglas were named the two starting running backs while Toafili recovered from his injury. The starting backups are redshirt sophomore Joshua Burrell and true freshman Samuel Singleton.

After playing a major part as a reserve for most of the season, Holmes takes the lead. In addition to catching four passes for 56 yards and two more touchdowns, he has run 21 times for 156 yards and two touchdowns. In Florida State’s wins over Florida and Louisville, Holmes did not log a carry. This season, Singleton has only made six rushes, while Douglas and Burrell have not yet registered a ground attempt.
