There will be no comeback for Eagles offensive coordinator Brian Johnson.
In Philadelphia, the Brian Johnson era is now gone. Derrick Gunn first revealed in 2024 that the offensive coordinator of the struggling Eagles would not be taking over the role.
Nick Sirianni will now take over as both the offensive and defensive coordinators, according to a report verified by Jeff McLane of The Inquirer on Tuesday morning.

After serving as the Eagles’ playcaller for two seasons, former offensive coordinator Shane Steichen was succeeded by Johnson as head coach of Indianapolis.
Before being promoted last offseason, Johnson had led the Eagles’ quarterbacks unit for those two seasons. Alex Tanney, his previous assistant QB coach, took over as head coach.
Johnson was Florida’s 2020 offensive coordinator and their quarterbacks coach before coming to the Eagles. He has previously held positions at Utah, Mississippi State, and Houston.
Eagles reportedly spoke with a promising young player for the available OC position.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Eagles interviewed Texans quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson for the position of offensive coordinator on Wednesday.
The Eagles elected to retain head coach Nick Sirianni following a terrible 2023 season, but they also sacked both of their top coordinators and are currently looking for replacements.
Johnson has joined former Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury as the second reported applicant to interview for the position of offensive coordinator.
Johnson, 35, is thought to be an obvious NFL rising star and is undoubtedly an interesting possibility.
As the Houston Texans’ quarterbacks coach in 2023, Johnson assisted in leading rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud, selected in the first round, to a standout campaign. It’s not surprising that Johnson is being considered as an offensive coordinator given his accomplishments.
Johnson and Sirianni also have a past together. Under Frank Reich, the two worked together in Indianapolis in 2019–20. In 2020, the last season Sirianni served as Indianapolis’ offensive coordinator prior to being appointed head coach of the Eagles, Johnson was a quality control coach.
Johnson was employed by the Vikings as an assistant quarterbacks coach before to joining the Texans in 2023.
Johnson did play quarterback at a high level, despite his rapid ascent to prominence as a coach. He is at least acquainted with the Eagles, having started every game while playing for Texas A&M and spending time with them during training camp in 2011.
Brian Johnson was let go by the Eagles after just one season as their offensive coordinator. Although Johnson did interview this offseason for two head coaching positions, the Eagles offense was obviously in need of improvement following 2023. Between Sirianni, quarterback Jaren Hurts, and Brian Johnson, there was a rift. Furthermore, the offense under Shane Steichen’s leadership was not nearly as strong as it was the previous season.
