Breaking news: Two Richmond Tigers superstars have been suspended…

Before their Dreamtime match, the Tigers will appeal Pickett’s ban.

Richmond plans to contest Marlion Pickett’s one-game suspension for pushing Dylan Moore.

Should Pickett emerge victorious, he will be free to participate in the Tigers’ Dreamtime at the ‘G match this Saturday night against Essendon.

During the second quarter of the Tigers’ victory over the Hawks on Saturday, Pickett gave Moore a bump on the members’ wing.

Picket committed high contact, medium impact, and reckless behavior with Moore, according to the Match Review Officer, earning him a one-game punishment.

Tom Lynch, a teammate of Pickett’s who plays for the Tigers, was found not guilty after hitting Jarman Impey of Hawthorn with a raised forearm. Impey fled the field due to the blood rule because he had a cut on his face, but he later came back to finish the match.

Tigers consider ruck substitutions for Nankervis, who is suspended.

Richmond is looking to replace suspended player Toby Nankervis, and Ivan Soldo is a candidate to play in his second game of the year.

Due to Nankervis’s three-match suspension for giving Sydney’s Jake Lloyd a high bump, the Tigers will be without their best ruckman as they continue to compete for a finals berth.

While Ben Miller partnered with Nankervis in the ruck during last week’s victory over the Swans, it has created an opportunity for Soldo or Samson Ryan to rejoin the senior squad.

Due to a foot injury, Soldo, who was a member of the Tigers’ 2020 premiership team, has only played in one senior game this year.

“He’s just had trouble getting some consistency, which he’s been able to get for the past three weeks,” McQualter, the interim coach for Richmond, said to reporters on Thursday.

“(His form) is becoming better. Regaining your touch takes some time when you miss as much football as Soldo has.

“He’s certainly in great physical condition – he’s a big dude – and with three weeks of footy hopefully he’s been able to improve his touch.”

Ryan, a versatile ruck-forward who has played 14 senior games this season, was benched last week and replaced Soldo in the VFL, primarily in attack.

In round eight, the 22-year-old led the ruckman in a victory over West Coast, which was one of his best AFL performances.

“Long-term we think Samson’s going to be a No.1 ruck but we also know how hard it is for a young kid to carry the ruck,” McQualter stated.

“He’s shown he’s able to do it and he’s been a great second ruck at times, as well, and we’re really excited about his future.”

Nankervis will miss games against West Coast, Hawthorn, and the Western Bulldogs due to his hard knock on Lloyd and the ensuing suspension.

“Toby put his hand up pretty much straight away and acknowledged that he got it wrong,” McQualter recalled.

He is aware that he was dissatisfied in his action, but we move on without addressing the playing group.

“Toby is a terrific player for us, so I’m sad he’ll miss three weeks of football, but he goes after the ball and is one of our finest contested-ball players.

“Unfortunately he got it wrong in that circumstance.”
