“I’m Back”: Ohio State defensive tackle Ty Hamilton confirms his return for the 2024 campaign Ty Hamilton, like many other returning Buckeyes, gave the excuse that he had “some unfinished business” when he decided to return to Ohio State.

In the middle of a rush of trades and draft announcements, the Ohio State Buckeyes have managed to hold onto a significant portion of its defense.

Ty Hamilton, a defensive tackle for the Buckeyes, declared he would forego the 2024 NFL Draft in order to rejoin the Scarlet and Gray for the upcoming campaign.

Before leaving Columbus, Hamilton mentioned that there was still “unfinished business” that needed to be settled in a statement he shared on social media. For many of Ohio State’s returning players, including defensive end Jack Sawyer, linebacker Cody Simon, and safety Lathan Ransom, it has been imperative to finish strong.

“First of all, I would like to thank God for the opportunity and blessing it is to be here at The Ohio State,” Hamilton stated. “I would like to express my gratitude to my coaches and family for their support during this journey, but I believe that the brotherhood still has some unresolved issues. Hamilton played in 11 of Ohio State’s 13 games during the 2023 campaign, tallying 38 tackles and two sacks. Since joining the Buckeyes in 2021, the product of Pickerington, Ohio, has recorded 4.5 sacks and taken down 65 opponents.

Jim Knowles, the defensive coordinator for the Buckeyes, is pleased to hear that Hamilton will be returning. Many starters, including defensive tackle Mike Hall, Jr., have either left Ohio State or are still debating whether to return, including cornerback Denzel Burke.

Maybe Hamilton’s return may persuade a few more Buckeyes to stick around.

It’s probably too soon to declare Day to be in the “hot seat.” To supporters who live and die with the Buckeyes, however, Day’s three consecutive losses to Michigan eclipse all of his other achievements. The Ohio State coach will be under pressure to snap out of that losing trend and begin winning Big Ten championships once more.

Luckily for Day, there are a lot of things going for them that might propel Ohio State back to the top of the NCAA football standings the next year.

From a defense that finished second in the nation last season with just 11.2 points allowed per game, the Buckeyes return nine starters on the defensive end. Among them are defensive linemen J.T. Tuimoloau, Tyleik Williams, and Jack Sawyer, who together account for 14.5 of Ohio State’s 28 sacks.

In the secondary, Denzel Burke, Davison Igbinosun, Jordan Hancock, and Lathan Ransom all made a comeback, contributing 19 pass break-ups and four interceptions. In addition, Caleb Downs, a former safety for Alabama, was signed by the Buckeyes via the transfer portal after Nick Saban announced his retirement. The defensive back recorded 70 tackles and two interceptions in his first year at Tuscaloosa.

In 2024, Ohio State’s defense could be truly exceptional.

However, Day’s specialty, the offensive line, is where the Buckeyes really need to improve. Ohio State should be in a favorable position due to the combination of returning talent and additions made through the transfer portal.
