Matt Ryan: The quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons calls the rumors that he wishes to quit “false” and “ridiculous.”

Since his selection as the third overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, Ryan has resided in Atlanta. Ryan, the league MVP in 2016 and a four-time Pro Bowler, has thrown for 355 touchdowns and 56,757 yards over his career.

He played a part in getting the Falcons to Super Bowl LI, where they famously lost to the New England Patriots 34-28 in overtime after blowing a 28-3 lead in the third quarter. After missing the playoffs the following year, Atlanta has lost three straight seasons and is currently 1-3 thus far this season under new head coach Arthur Smith.

There have been hints that Ryan may emulate former Lions quarterback Stafford, who joined a contender in the Los Angeles Rams this summer and has had an outstanding start to the season, despite only making three postseason appearances in his twelve years in Detroit.

“Untrue. That’s absurd, in my opinion,” Ryan said to The Athletic this week. That’s simply untrue, and I’m providing you with a reliable source for this.

“I consider myself lucky to having spent 14 years here. I’m thrilled about it. I truly adore this place, the organization, the new coaching staff, and what they stand for. I also think we have a strong core of players and can win right now.

“I really feel like my skill set fits well within what he [Smith] is trying to do.”

Ryan’s Falcons travel to the United Kingdom this week to play the New York Jets at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday in what will be the team’s first NFL International Series game in London in two years.
