Sad news for Philadelphia Eagles: I want to leave…

As the NFL season is about to begin, there is sad news for a legendary Eagle.

It was a depressing week for Philadelphia sports, despite excitement surrounding the Eagles’ home and road openings and the Phillies’ ascent to the top National League wildcard berth.

Hugh Douglas Jr., a student at Atlanta’s esteemed Morehouse College and the son of prominent Eagles defensive end and anchor of WIP (94.1 FM) Hugh Douglas, passed away in an Atlanta vehicle accident last Monday.

Naturally, Douglas took time off from his radio responsibilities to grieve with his family.

Throughout the week, Tuesday’s WIP callers sent their sympathies and showed empathy to Douglas on his loss.

Many consider the loss of a child—especially one that comes as a shock—to be the most trying of all.

Douglas Jr., 20, lost his life when Christion Files Jr., a close friend,’s car struck a utility pole on an Atlanta highway as it was passing another vehicle. Additionally, Files was destroyed.

The two young guys belonged to the Morehouse 2025 class. Their junior year at the school recently started.

Every one of them excelled academically and had notable extracurricular accomplishments to their name.

Douglas Jr. intended to major in finance while earning a degree in business administration. After completing his summer internship in Los Angeles, he had flown back to Atlanta.

Files served in the junior class council at Morehouse and captained the track and field team.

Hugh Douglas Jr.’s Celebration of Life will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Atlanta’s renowned Ebenezer Baptist Church, which was formerly led by the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

Everyone attending the service is asked to wear colorful clothing instead of black, per the Douglas family’s wish.

The family requests donations to the Hugh Douglas Memorial Fund, which will give Morehead students scholarships, in place of flowers.

One of the more adored characters in Philadelphia sports history is Hugh Douglas. He joined the Eagles from the New York Jets and contributed to their ascent to prominence between 1998

Douglas played in Super Bowl XXXIX with the Eagles in 2004 after spending a season with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Douglas put up great stats as a defensive end while playing for the Eagles. His three Pro Bowl appearances (2000, 2002, and 2003) include an induction into the Philadelphia Eagles Hall of Fame.

Douglas joined WIP earlier this year to co-host Joe Giglio’s weekday show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The same year as his playing career ended (2005), he began his broadcasting career at Channel 29. Douglas appeared on television as well, first on WIP and then ESPN. At Atlanta’s The Game (92.9 FM), he hosted sports discussion shows for the most of the previous ten years.

He is anticipated to offer wisdom from someone who has excelled on the field as the Eagles prepare for their 2023–24 campaign and pursue a second Super Bowl appearance.

“You were already a better man than me,” Douglas said in reference to his late son in a post on Twitter’s replacement, X.

At least on the 24-hour cable networks, television news has devolved into one big partisan yelling war.

All of the major news outlets, including CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News Channel, are equally guilty of using material skewed to their advantage in order to draw viewers.

The idea is that, save from a few breaking stories, there is no news.

News for the already converted is basically entertainment, according to MSNBC, Fox News Channel, and CNN.

A few weeks ago, a play recorded at London’s National Theatre that explains how debates between nonjournalists started on television was presented at the Ambler and Bryn Mawr movie theaters, both nonprofits that screen current films while also offering a program of classic screenings, carrying video versions of major operas, plays, and musical events from around the world, and providing video art galleries.
