Report news: Denver Broncos star player found dead

Former Denver Bronco Demaryius Thomas Is Discovered Dead

Thomas, 33, was a wide receiver for the Denver Broncos in the 2016 Super Bowl and spent ten seasons in the National Football League. June was his retirement month.

Demaryius Thomas, a former standout wide receiver for the Denver Broncos who spent ten seasons in the NFL before retiring in June, passed away on Thursday at his Roswell, Georgia, home. 33 was his age.

An email from a Roswell Police Department spokesman confirming his death stated, “Preliminary information is that his death stems from a medical issue.”

Mr. Thomas was referred to by the NFL as a “standout” player. During his ten years in the league, he was a five-time Pro Bowl player mainly with the Broncos. In the 50th Super Bowl in 2016, Mr. Thomas assisted in guiding the Broncos to an unexpected victory over the Carolina Panthers. He “established himself as a dominant record-setting wide receiver who was an instrumental part of two championship runs and our victory in Super Bowl 50,” according to a statement from the Broncos.

Mr. Thomas was the second-leading receiver for the Broncos and was chosen four times among the Top 100 NFL players. Before calling it quits on his career, he was traded to the Houston Texans in the 2018 season and then to the New York Jets. He had already hauled in 724 passes for 9,763 yards and 63 touchdowns by that point.

Bobby Thomas and Katina Stuckey Smith welcomed Mr. Thomas into the world on December 25, 1987, in Montrose, Georgia.

In an online biography, Mr. Thomas states that when he was eleven years old, both his mother and grandmother, Minnie Pearl Thomas, were taken into custody on suspicion of distributing drugs. Local news reports stated that at the time, his father was stationed in Kuwait as a member of the Army. The sentences for his grandmother and mother were life without parole and twenty years each.

President Barack Obama remitted his mother’s sentence in 2015. Later on in her writing, she talked about her desire for her mother’s release from prison and her regret for the crime. She wrote, “I received a 20-year mandatory sentence because I did not give’substantial assistance’ to the prosecution because I refused to testify against my mother.”

According to the Broncos website, Mr. Thomas met the president at the White House the following year. “We had a brief conversation,” he remarked. “I expressed my gratitude to him for his support of my family and for granting my mother clemency.”

After spending 16 years in federal prison, Mr. Obama commuted the sentence of Mr. Thomas’s grandmother in 2016. At the time, Mr. Thomas stated, “I’m happy, even though this was a blindside shot.” I’m thrilled. I was able to free my mother and grandmother during the last two years. It’s a blessing because many other people were able to free family members who hadn’t committed violent crimes.

Mr. Thomas is survived by his parents, two brothers, DeAndre and Brayden, and four sisters, Trenice Thomas, Tonecia Hightower, Tyeshia Smith, and Wynter Rose Thomas, according to a cousin, Latonya Bonseigneur.

In an interview, Mr. Thomas’s coach at West Laurens High School in Dexter, Georgia, Jeff Clayton, stated that although Mr. Thomas had demonstrated skill as a football and basketball player as a teenager, he “didn’t want to be in the spotlight.”

Mr. Clayton stated that Mr. Thomas would visit students at the high school later in his career. He remembered that “everyone would gravitate towards him.” However, he continued, “he never really changed from that humble little kid.”

Mr. Thomas was selected by the Broncos with the 22nd pick after attending Georgia Tech.

“I’m going to retire a Denver Bronco,” he declared in a video that was uploaded to the Broncos’ Twitter account in June, announcing his retirement. I feel honored, thankful, and appreciative.

Mr. Thomas talked about his first NFL touchdown in the video.

“I’m just happy to say I’m done and it did me well,” he said, adding, “I still get the chills every time I see it and every time I watch it.”
