Anouncement:Atlanta Falcons player Vic Beasley is leaving…

Vic Beasley: what happened to him? NFL sack leader and former Falcons All-Pro now with the Vipers of the XFLIn the XFL Draft, the Vegas Vipers were given the first pick in the linebacker class, and they didn’t take long to make their pick.

Their selection? Vic Beasley is a former edge rusher for the Falcons.

Some people will be surprised that Beasley is in the XFL. He was formerly regarded as an All-Pro prospect and a rising star after leading the NFL in sacks in 2016. After that season, he never quite reached those heights again, but you would think that an NFL team would want Beasley on the team as a role player.

Not quite. In fact, Beasley will be playing football for the first time since the 2020 campaign, when he was a member of both the Raiders and the Titans.

How did Beasley manage to get into the XFL, then? Here’s a look back at his NFL career downfall and the potential he had as a Vipers player.

Beasley’s tenure with the Falcons began brightly, particularly following his second-season selection as an All-Pro in 2016 and his league-high 15.5 sack total.

He did, however, gradually diminish after that campaign. His troubles began when he was unable to log a sack in Atlanta’s 2017 Super Bowl victory.

After that, Beasley’s significant stats declined and his influence as a small-framed edge rusher on the game decreased. Despite this, he finished his three seasons with the Falcons with a total of 18 sacks. At 6-3 and 246 pounds, he was not a strong enough run-stopper to be a reliable starter.

As a result, prior to the 2020 campaign, Beasley was compelled to sign a one-year prove-it contract with the Titans. In Tennessee’s 3-4 alignment, he was supposed to potentially revive his career, but he struggled.

Beasley didn’t even play a full season in Tennessee and never recorded a sack with the Titans. Having played in just five games, he was cut.

Robinson stated, “I just think that not every decision that we make works out,” according to Erik Bacharach of The Tennessean. “We worked with him for a long time, attempting to motivate him. Ultimately, we concluded that it would be better for us to take a different course.”

They weren’t by themselves. After leaving the Titans, Beasley was signed by the Raiders, where he played in five games but only managed one tackle.

Falcons will not attempt to re-sign Vic Beasley

Beasley has remained an unsigned NFL free agent ever since. The 30-year-old is expected to play for the first time in over two years and is hoping to reclaim some of his former All-Pro form.

As previously stated, Beasley’s second season in Atlanta was his best in terms of statistics. Despite everything, he demonstrated his skill as a pass rusher in his previous seasons with the Falcons before losing his cool in Tennessee and Las Vegas.

Take a look at Beasley’s NFL stats broken down by season as he attempts to become one of the best edge rushers in the XFL.
