Kareem Jackson was once again suspended for persistently putting other players in danger.
The NFL has had enough of Kareem Jackson at last.
The 2023 season has seen the Denver Broncos defensive back put himself in the firing line for multiple dangerous hits; on Monday afternoon, the league decided to suspend him for the second time this season.
Jackson had served a four-game suspension before it was subsequently shortened to two games due to an appeal. On Sunday night, Jackson played his first game back against the Minnesota Vikings. Less than ninety seconds into the game, the 35-year-old hit Josh Dobbs with a vicious high hit that hit the quarterback’s facemask.
Jackson was punished on Monday because the NFL was witnessing the entire incident and did not penalize the hit. Instead, the NFL sent Cobbs to the blue medical tent for additional assessment.
NFL Vice President of Football Operations Jon Runyan criticized Jackson’s risky play style in a letter to the player, stating that high hits to players such as Dobbs, Logan Thomas of Washington, and Luke Musgrave of Green Bay are “illegal acts” that “will not be tolerated.”
The NFL is not known for giving out long suspensions; Jackson’s four-game ban last month was the longest the league had handed out in four years. Furthermore, the seasoned cornerback is probably confident in his ability to perform given that his suspension was lowered on appeal.
