Officially losing a big player, the Tennessee Vols are still in the running to sign a former 5-star
On Monday, the Tennessee Vols formally lost a vital offensive player.
Running back Tiyon Evans, a January enrollee at UT as a junior transfer, declared his transfer to Louisville on Monday.
This season, Evans participated in seven games for the Vols and ran for 521 yards and six touchdowns. Despite his ability to be a dynamic playmaker, he was unable to maintain his health for the entire season.
At first, it seemed as though Evans had clicked on the transfer portal in order to move back to his South Carolina hometown. Additionally, there were rumors that Evans’ grades were a problem. However, a player who left Tennessee informed me that Evans’ grades had nothing to do with it.

Evans is considering Ole Miss a lot. There’s no doubt that the Rebels and the Vols will prevail in this battle.
The loss of Tiyon Evans will hurt much less if Tennessee is able to sign Zach Evans. These are similar players who have produced similarly at the Power-5 level.

GAINESVILLE, Florida —Three players who were expected to play in Tennessee football’s SEC opener against Florida on Saturday night did not play.
Having missed Tennessee’s opening two games of the season, center Cooper Mays was known to be doubtful for the game, but Heupel said he “anticipated” Mays to be fit.

Doneiko Slaughter, the starting cornerback, was conspicuously absent from the game. Heupel stated after the game that “Doneiko wasn’t available,” despite Tennessee failing to declare Slaughter’s absence from the squad prior to the match.
It was unclear why Slaughter was not available. He was fully clothed and holding his helmet on the sidelines. As far as the media is aware, he has not suffered any injuries this season. Since the latter part of the previous season, Slaughter has emerged as one of Tennessee’s top defensive backs and is unquestionably its best tackling corner.
