Ryan Mallett, a former quarterback for Michigan, reportedly drowned in Florida at the age of 35.

Former Michigan football quarterback Ryan Mallett, who played one season in Ann Arbor, passed away on Tuesday, according to confirmation from his employer.

First reported by the Deltaplex News, Mallett drowned in Destin, Florida. He was taken to a nearby hospital and later declared dead.

A post on the White Hall, Arkansas, School District Facebook page, where Mallett was hired a few months ago as the head football coach, said, “It is with great sadness that we share the loss of Coach Ryan Mallett.” “Coach Mallett was a well-liked educator and coach. We kindly ask that you keep the White Hall School District staff, students, teammates, family, and coaches in your prayers.”

Born and raised in Batesville, Arkansas, Mallett attended U-M for his first year of college before moving to Arkansas (2008–2010) and becoming one of the team’s most decorated signal callers with over a dozen records.

The New England Patriots selected Mallett, who was regarded by some evaluators as a first-round NFL talent, with the 74th overall pick in the third round of the 2011 NFL draft. He played for New England for three seasons (2011–13), Houston for a portion of two years (2014–15), and Baltimore for the last three years of his playing career (2015–17).

Throughout the course of six NFL seasons, he started eight games, made 13 appearances, and completed 190-for-345 passing (55.1%) with nine touchdowns and ten interceptions.
