Chris Boswell Steelers Re-Sign: New Contract Information and Response

Chris Boswell, a kicker for the Pittsburgh Steelers, agreed to a one-year exclusive rights contract on Thursday, committing to the team through the 2017 campaign.

The news was reported by Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com and James Palmer of NFL Network. Due to his two or fewer years of NFL service, Boswell’s exclusive-rights tender was up for renewal with the Steelers.

A player is only allowed to sign with the team that issues him a tender. Boswell, 25, has spent the last two seasons as the Steelers’ starting kicker. In 2016, he made 21 of 25 accurate tries, for a total of 50 of 57.

Due to Pittsburgh’s potent offense and preference for two-point conversions, Boswell was frequently left on the sidelines, but he twice delivered the crucial big performances that were required. He made six field goals in the Steelers’ victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on December 18 and another six in the team’s victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round.
