The Broncos announced on Friday that they and their star safety had reached an agreement on a new four-year contract. ESPN reports that the new contract is reportedly worth $61 million, despite the fact that no specifics were disclosed. Simmons is currently the league’s highest-paid safety, earning $15.25 million annually.
Budda Baker, a safety for the Arizona Cardinals, signed a record-breaking four-year contract worth $14.75 million a season last September; Simmons’ deal is greater.
One less than his career high of 96 total tackles, Simmons also had five interceptions in the previous campaign. The 27-year-old, who Denver selected in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft, has at least 90 tackles in each of his three seasons and hasn’t missed a snap for the team.
After applying the franchise tag to Simmons during the previous season, the Broncos did so again this month.

Before the 2019 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos used a second-round pick to acquire Drew Lock in order to hone his exceptional skill set. The former Missouri quarterback did not play in the team’s final five games of his rookie campaign.
During that time, Lock made an impression on the Broncos front office, changing their plans for the 2020 NFL Draft. After winning four of the five games, he was given a starting position for the next campaign.
The Broncos gave Lock a number of offensive playmakers this offseason. The Broncos selected two excellent receivers in the first round, Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler, and signed NFL star running back Melvin Gordon.
