Minnesota Vikings player Johnny Mundt enters transfer portal…

Former Rams Blocking Tight End Signed by Vikings Johnny Mundt is an excellent blocker despite having only ten career receptions.

At the beginning of the 2022 league season on Wednesday afternoon, the Vikings announced that they had reached an agreement with free agent tight end Johnny Mundt. Since Mundt, 27, began his professional career with the Rams, he is acquainted with both offensive coordinator Wes Phillips and head coach Kevin O’Connell of Minnesota.

Mundt has a two-year contract worth up to $2.45 million. The Rams were interested in having him return as well.

Mundt holds the TE position and specializes in blocking. In his NFL career, the 6’4″, 233-pound player has only ten receptions and zero touchdown catches, but he has proven to be a reliable run blocker who can also play pass protection when necessary. Mundt had just 683 yards and eight touchdowns in four years of collegiate ball at Oregon, where he finished as a senior in 2016 with a career-best 23/334/4 line.

The native of California is returning from six games in 2021 due to an ACL tear. The fact that Mundt recovered under the new Vikings head trainer Tyler Williams could also have contributed to his decision to move to Minnesota.

Although it still seems unlikely that the Vikings will pay the required amount to bring back free agent tight end Tyler Conklin, this move isn’t expected to have an impact on his status. Ben Ellefson has competition in Mundt for the blocking TE position.

I have the following vision of the Vikings’ 2022 tight end depth chart:

Along with inside linebacker Jordan Hicks and defensive tackle Harrison Phillips, Mundt is another one of the external free agents signed by the Vikings under new general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah.

Vikings don’t take long to let tight end Johnny Mundt demonstrate his ability to receive
