Six points for Patriots vs. Steelers: Bill Belichick’s decision regarding the quarterback was simple.

In a game that revitalized their offense, the New England Patriots defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 21–18 on their home field on Thursday night during the NFL on Prime Video.

With three touchdowns in the first half, Bailey Zappe was back to his best. Two of these made an impact with tight end Hunter Henry, which led to online comparisons between the Patriots’ developing on-field chemistry and the era of Rob Gronkowski and Tom Brady dominance during the Super Bowl.

In the first half of any game this year, the Patriots offense scored the highest number of points and touchdowns. However, the Steelers encountered a situation during the game where they were forced to commit their fourth three-and-out in as many possessions.

The Patriots’ late-game offensive momentum soured during four late drives that ended in a punt, another punt, an interception, and a fourth-quarter three-and-out. During this time, the team averaged 3.6 yards per play. Conversely, the Patriots had a great start to the game, averaging 7.6 yards per play during their first six drives.

Pittsburgh trailed 21–18 with five minutes left, and Steelers quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, who had been booed by the crowd for his lackluster first-half performance, was asked to lead a game-winning drive. The Steelers were forced to punt after a six-play drive that only gained 22 yards, handing the ball back to New England with the advantage.

Later in the game, Zappe and the Patriots would use a Philadelphia Eagles “tush push” play to run out the clock and win. With the victory, the Patriots’ season record improved to 3-10 while the Steelers’ record fell to 7-6.
