Just in: Tennessee Volunteers confirm a new signing…

Leading QB Nico Iamaleava is a five-star player. Vols’ signing class for 2023
Including transfers, Tennessee football’s 2023 class had 28 commits as of the start of the early signing period on Wednesday.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. Officially starting on Wednesday, Tennessee football welcomed 28 new players to its 2023 signing class during the early signing period. Nico Iamaleava, a five-star quarterback who first committed in March, was the highlight of the Vols’ 28-man class.

The 28-man class of the Vols is balanced on both ends of the ball and includes transfers. Tennessee signed 12 players on offense, 14 players on defense, and two placekickers as special team members.

Iamaleava, a product of California, is the only quarterback in the class and the only commit with five stars. As an early enrollee, he has already participated in team practices, and Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel is impressed.

“He knows why things happen and when they happen. That will only keep happening, according to Heupel. “Obviously, the raw skills are there.”

As of the time of the signing class announcement on Wednesday, Tennessee had garnered commitments from these positions according to position.

Tennessee football currently has the nation’s tenth-best 2023 recruiting class, according to 247Sports. Heupel claimed that during his second year leading the program, recruiting efforts really picked up steam.

“In year one there was a lot of outside noise that we couldn’t control,” Heupel stated. “I think [recruits] understand the trajectory of where this program is heading, the fact that you can compete for championships.”

Tennessee added two more new commitments on Wednesday, following the announcement of the class. DeSean Bishop, a local star and running back for the Karns, declared his commitment to UT, and the Vols added former BYU linebacker Keenan Pili as another transfer.
