Kansas City Chiefs injury report:He will not play again

Bryan Cook and Other KC Chiefs Injury Updates Following Loss to Packers
Andy Reid talked briefly about Bryan Cook, Donovan Smith, and Drue Tranquill’s injuries.

The Kansas City Chiefs, who were already without a few key players going into their Week 13 matchup with the Green Bay Packers, were not allowed to leave Lambeau Field unscathed.

Both left tackle Donovan Smith and linebacker Drue Tranquill dealt with injuries during the first quarter of play. After Tranquill was ultimately declared out due to a concussion, Smith tried to play through it with a stinger, but things didn’t work out that way, and rookie Wanya Morris played a lot of reps in relief of him. Bryan Cook, a sophomore safety, appeared to have an ugly ankle injury in the second half and was carried off the field in a visibly distressed state. Later on, he was moved from questionable to out.

Head coach Andy Reid gave a very succinct update on the situation to the media following the game. Although Smith’s stinger and Tranquill’s concussion were verified, the team is reportedly still working through some issues with Cook.

“As far as the injuries go, Tranquill had a concussion,” said Reid. “Cook, we are currently examining his ankle. The stingers were in Donovan Smith’s shoulder.”

Given that the circumstances surrounding Tranquill and Smith suggest that their injuries may be more transient in nature, Cook is Kansas City’s primary injury concern. It’s not clear how long Cook will take to recover, which is bad news for the Chiefs right now. The 2022 second-round selection had made seven tackles during the contest, six of which were solo attempts, when he was hurt. Ultimately, that total tied for second place among all Kansas City defenders.

Before the Sunday Night Football game, Cook’s numbers from his rookie season had already been surpassed. The former Cincinnati star finished with 35 tackles (one for loss), two passes intercepted, and two fumble recoveries in 11 games. Additionally, he had played 570 defensive snaps, or 84% of the total available snaps. Though the group’s future is now uncertain, the trio of him, Justin Reid, and Mike Edwards was becoming quite the reliable one for Steve Spagnuolo’s backup.
