Meet Austin’s other freshmen, including five-star quarterback Arch Manning of the Texas Longhorns.
The quarterback leads Steve Sarkisian and staff’s stellar recruiting class.

Texas has one of the best signing classes of 2023 in the country; according to 247Sports’ composite rankings, their group is ranked No. 3 overall. Of the 21 incoming freshmen, 14 chose to enroll early in order to play spring ball.

Here’s a quick look at Texas’ 2023 early enrollees, ranked in descending order by 247Sports’ national rankings. By now, anyone who watches Texas football, or college football in general, knows who Arch Manning is and what he can bring to the table. Although the public won’t get to see Manning play in a Texas uniform for a few months, he’s already making his presence known; two weeks into the spring semester, he lost his student ID, in typical freshman fashion. Five-star quarterback Arch Manning officially signs with Texas Longhorns

The biggest story of National Signing Day in the 2022 cycle was Travis Hunter, the nation’s top player, switching his commitment from Florida State to Jackson State. This year, the Longhorns won’t have to worry about a tale like that.

Arch Manning has formally signed this document. Isidore Newman, a five-star quarterback from New Orleans, Louisiana, was revealed by the school today following the receipt of his Letter of Intent. Manning is the first No. 1 overall player the Longhorns have signed in the Top247 era and the first since Vince Young in 2002 to hold that position in the contemporary recruiting era.

In June, Manning made his commitment to Texas following a well-publicized national recruitment. He opted for the Longhorns over Clemson, Georgia, Alabama

The next in line for the most illustrious football quarterback family is Arch Manning, the grandson of Archie Manning and nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning. The Longhorns will have signed the top player in the country out of high school for the first time in the Top247 era if the ranking holds true. Quinn Ewers, the former No. 1 overall prospect, is in the quarterback room he joins; however, Ewers signed with Ohio State straight out of high school.

At New Orleans (LA) Isidore Newman, Manning concluded his high school career with 8,599 yards and 115 touchdown passes on a 64% completion rate. Along with 153 rush attempts for 1,155 yards and 25 touchdowns on the ground, he finished his career with a 34-9 record.

Longhorns Daily News: Texas' Steve Sarkisian wins AP's Big 12 coach of the year - Burnt Orange Nation

Matthew Golden, a wide receiver transfer from Houston, chose Texas over several other schools, including Miami, LSU, Georgia, and Louisville, on Saturday. With the Longhorns possibly replacing their top three wideouts in the offseason—Xavier Worthy, Aaron Mitchell, and Jordan Whittington—it’s a significant victory for Steve Sarkisian and team.

After being recruited by UT out of Klein Cain, Golden—a former four-star recruit in the class of 2022—decided to stay home and play for the Cougars. Golden caught 76 passes for 988 yards and 13 touchdowns during his two seasons at UH.

On October 21, Golden caused issues for the Longhorn secondary in their game against Texas. At TDECU Stadium, Golden caught seven passes for 88 yards and two touchdowns in a losing effort.

Golden satisfies the criteria of the Longhorns, who are searching the transfer portal for one-and-done wide receiver talent. Golden was named to Athlon Sports’ preseason first team All-Big 12 and was included on the Maxwell Award watch list prior to his sophomore campaign.

Texas’ first portal addition of the 2024 cycle is the 6-foot, 190-pound Golden, but he won’t be the last. The Longhorns’ early portal targets, in addition to wide receiver, could cover gaps at safety and along the defensive line.

Ryan Wingo, a five-star recruit, Freddie Dubose, a four-star prospect, and Parker Livingstone, a four-star prospect, round out the class that Golden joins.

If players choose to pursue a transfer, they will enter their names into an online database called the portal. When players want to add their name to the portal, they notify the compliance office at their current school; usually, this happens within 48 hours. Any player who has registered can be contacted by coaches via the database.
