In the wake of the tragic car accident that claimed the lives of Georgia offensive lineman Devon Willock and football staff member Chandler LeCroy, the decision is a significant milestone.

According to the Athens-Clarke Co. police, LeCroy and Carter were “operating their vehicles in a manner consistent with racing shortly after leaving the downtown Athens area at about 2:30 a.m.” according to the findings of their investigation.

According to the report, “the evidence demonstrated that both vehicles switched between lanes, drove in the center turn lane, drove in opposite lanes of travel, overtook other motorists, and drove at high rates of speed, in an apparent attempt to outdistance each other.”

Investigators from the police department “determined that alcohol impairment, racing, reckless driving, and speed were significant contributing factors to the crash.”

According to the report, LeCroy was traveling at 104 miles per hour in his Ford Expedition.

According to AJC, Carter initially told authorities that he was more than a mile away from the accident when it happened.

He did, however, later acknowledge that he was close enough to see the taillights of the car.
