Another issue:Tennessee Volunteers star player was detained for…..

Coach of the Tennessee Volunteers says he didn’t request special treatment following the arrest of a linebacker.

When university police arrested linebacker Jeremy Banks on a warrant related to a prior traffic infraction, Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt claimed he wasn’t upset about being treated differently, but rather that he wasn’t aware that the warrant had been issued in the first place.

In a recorded conversation with police on September 15, Pruitt is heard questioning whether Banks’s warrant warranted an arrest. Pruitt cried, “This is the silliest s— I’ve ever seen in my life,” and added, “I’ve worked at four places, and I ain’t ever had no crap like this except for here, because the people usually say, ‘Hey, something’s not right here.'” The officer responded, explaining that he was legally required to do so.

During the SEC teleconference on Wednesday, Pruitt was questioned about whether he had ever seen police sever a player’s connection during his four prior positions.

Pruitt responded, “No, not at all.” “I’ve never coached in a place where someone has ever given someone a break. The point was that I was unaware that the warrant had been issued and had been there for five or four weeks. And that’s something we need to work on more—focusing on our players to make sure you don’t get a speeding ticket or anything similar. Therefore, it is up to us as staff to do a better job of understanding what’s going on, and in order to resolve that, we need to build relationships.”

Pruitt claimed that for the first few minutes after answering the call at 3:30 a.m., he had “no idea” who he was talking to.

“And by the time I got it figured out, um, there was obviously some confusion because it was late,” Pruitt stated. “But I appreciate the officer talking to me and doing his job.”

Banks was heard saying in the arrest video—which the news station WBIR was able to obtain—that he ought to have fled the police and that “where I’m from, we shoot at cops.”

It is also during the jail trip that Banks mentions he has never met police officers “as nice as y’all.”

When the officer pulled over the sophomore linebacker from Cordova, Tennessee, for an illegal U-turn, they found a warrant for Banks’ arrest for failure to appear in court on a misdemeanor driving with a suspended license from July. Once arrested, he was freed on a $500 bond.

The Knoxville News claims that following his arrest, Banks’ playing time against Florida was restricted.

“Jeremy’s comments and behavior were unacceptable,” Pruitt stated on Wednesday, “and we’ve addressed the matter internally.”

Tennessee, which lost to Florida on September 21 and is now 1-3, will host Georgia, which is ranked third, on Saturday.

In front of his new girlfriend, Escobar told police, she wanted the football player to come clean about having a sexual relationship. According to the affidavit, she claimed to have followed and blocked them in a parking lot. She added that she had scratched the football player’s door with ketchup.

Court documents did not list Escobar’s attorney. Her court date is scheduled for January 9.

The university released a statement on Monday saying, “The University is aware of an arrest of an employee, and takes the allegations associated with the incident seriously.” “On specific personnel issues or issues that might involve student privacy laws, TSU is unable to comment.
