Jordan Burch moves to Oregon: The Ducks defense gains a significant boost from the former South Carolina standout, EDGE.
Former five-star prospect Burch was instrumental in the Gamecocks’ 2022 defense.
Former EDG from South Carolina, Jordan Burch, revealed on Wednesday that he is transferring to Oregon. As a junior in 2022, Burch made 60 tackles for the Gamecocks, including 7.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks, starting to live up to the five-star prospect status he was given as a prospect in the 2020 class.
After graduating from Columbia, South Carolina’s Hammond School, Burch was rated as the 17th best player in his class overall. As of right now, he is the second-best South Carolina signee of the 247Sports era, only behind Jadeveon Clowney. After playing reserve as a freshman and sophomore, Burch made his first start for the Gamecocks in their bowl victory the previous year and took off.
He had a breakthrough performance in a Week 2 loss against the Arkansas Razorbacks, recording 10 tackles, including two for loss and a sack, that set the stage for his breakout year in 2022. Based on Pro Football Focus data, he finished the season ranked as the 10th best pass rusher in the SEC from the EDGE rusher slot.
Burch, who finished with four tackles in South Carolina’s Gator Bowl loss to Notre Dame on December 30, made his transfer portal debut last week. He will still have two seasons of eligibility, but if he does well at Oregon in 2023, he might earn a spot in the NFL Draft.
