Sad news:why South Carolina Gamecocks suspended a superstar…

The football team of South Carolina has suspended three Gamecocks.

According to a statement from the school, football players for South Carolina, Montteque Rhames, Anthony Rose, and Cameron Upshaw, have all been suspended from the program. The press release omitted to specify the reason for the suspension.

However, Rhames was taken into custody on Friday morning and accused of obstructing the course of justice and possessing a weapon on school property. As of this writing, neither Rose nor Upshaw had any charges listed on the Richland County website.

According to a statement from third-year head coach Shane Becker, “our student-athletes know what is expected of them.” “They understand that they will be held responsible for their choices and actions by the University and the football program.”

Rose redshirted his first season at South Carolina after enrolling there a year prior. There was no game action that he saw. In his first year on campus, the 6-foot-1, 190-pound player practiced at cornerback. He was a Miami Central High School four-star recruit who scored 0.8922 on the 247Sports Composite.

Less than a month ago, Rhames and Upshaw—both members of the 2023 recruiting class—arrived on campus to start their college careers.

Rhames was a defensive end who played at Manning High School until his senior year. He recorded 82 tackles as a junior at Sumter High School, with 22.5 of those being for a loss. He also had seven sacks of the quarterback. With a four-star rating of 0.8950 in the 247Sports Composite, the 6-foot-5, 240-pound player was ranked No. 385 in the nation.

Upshaw played his senior year at Taylor County High School as a defensive back who was projected to play safety. He participated in both offensive and defensive play during his junior year at Gadsden County High School. In addition to throwing for 490 yards with six touchdowns and rushing for 268 yards on offense in his junior year, he also recorded 52 tackles and one interception.

As stated in a statement, “Our student-athletes know what is expected of them,” Beamer said. “They know that both the university and the football program will hold them accountable for their actions and decisions.”

After falling to Notre Dame in the TaxSlayer Bowl, South Carolina concluded an impressive 8-5 campaign in its second season under head coach Brian Dowell.

On September 2, the Gamecocks will play their first game of the 2023 season against North Carolina.
