NBA Report Good news for Golden State Warriors:he is back…

Dieter Kurtenbach: The Warriors have benefited from Draymond Green’s suspension. It could also be advantageous for Green.

Virtual meetings are used to monitor Draymond Green’s progress toward rejoining the Warriors following his suspension: report

As a requirement of his indefinite suspension, Draymond Green, a longtime star for the Golden State Warriors, is receiving counseling. Nevertheless, he is also participating in virtual meetings with NBA officials, players union representatives, and team officials in an attempt to monitor his advancement toward reinstatement, per an ESPN report.

Green is still trying to figure out what might be causing his frequent outbursts during games and fixing it. Sources told ESPN that the video conference calls are thought to be a useful tool for tracking Green’s change-making efforts.

According to the report, Green has shown signs of flexibility since the NBA imposed its punishment earlier this month.

Rich Paul, the founder of Klutch Sports, is Green’s representative. According to ESPN, the influential sports agent and Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. are among the individuals taking part in the ongoing meetings.

The NBA has previously stated that in order for Green’s suspension to be lifted, he must meet specific league and team requirements. On December 13, the day after the Warriors forward struck Phoenix Suns center Jusuf Nurkic in the face, the league announced the indefinite suspension. Due to another on-court altercation earlier in the season, Green received a suspension.

According to ESPN, there is a “general belief” that, barring any unforeseen circumstances, Green will probably miss 11–13 games.

After losing to the reigning champion Denver Nuggets on Christmas Day, Golden State went seven games without their four-time All-Star forward.

Late in June, Green signed a four-year contract extension with the Warriors. Every game he misses is reportedly costing him an estimated $153,9541. In order to cover for Green during his prolonged absence, the Warriors have not indicated that they would be open to adding another player to the roster.

The 2023–24 season has seen three instances of the 33-year-old being benched from games. In his extensive professional career, he has experienced six suspensions altogether.

During a team practice the previous year, Green and former Warriors player Jordan Poole got into a physical altercation.

Green has long been regarded as an important member of the Warriors’ dynasty, which produced four NBA titles, and was named the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2017.

Kurtenbach: The Warriors have benefited from Draymond Green’s suspension. It could also be advantageous for Green.

The Warriors’ indefinite suspension of Draymond Green may have been the best development of the season.

It also may have been the best thing that ever happened to Green, in a strange way.

The forward’s absence has compelled Dubs coach Steve Kerr to trust and play his young players, who have responded with good play and positive energy.

It wasn’t a fluke that the Celtics lost. It also can’t be ignored to stick with Denver for all but the last few minutes (blame the altitude, the refs, etc.). The Warriors won five of their seven games without Green, including five straight before Christmas, with Jonathan Kuminga serving as the team’s offensive focal point, starting player Brandin Podziemski, and center of choice Trayce Jackson-Davis.

Golden State is a small, shrewd, and tenacious team that has found its identity thanks to the youthful Warriors.

It’s similar to the atmosphere the Warriors experienced at the conclusion of the 2020–2021 campaign.

However, that naturally begs some unpleasant questions prior to Green’s comeback to the starting lineup.

The joy of being “indefinitely” suspended means that nobody can predict when Green will return, but as of right now, NBA insiders predict he will return in about a week, extending his suspension to 12 or 13 games.

It’s reasonable to wonder how Green will fit into the lineup if the Warriors continue to win between now and then.

God forbid the Warriors ruin something nice.

However, I believe that Green’s court-mandated quest to do the same will benefit the forward if the Warriors find themselves in the middle of it.

When he comes back, nothing should be given to Green. He will need to regain his minutes.

And Green is a winner for the Warriors and himself in fewer minutes and a more defined role.

The Warriors kept looking to Green and the other experienced Warriors players to solve their team’s problems at the beginning of the season. Too much playing time was spent on too little productive play as a result.

Is the offense unable to quit giving up turnovers? The de facto point guard, Draymond, was called in to fix it.

Is a sieve used as defense? It will be cleared up by one of the best defenders of all time, right?

False.

To be honest, though, Green may not be able to accomplish such things these days.

The forward shouldn’t be held accountable for the Warriors’ success, but he can still contribute to their victory.

There is a distinction.

And Green ought to find out what it is when he gets back.

What the Warriors are building without Green should be preserved if Green returns as a role player, someone who must fit the lineup rather than being a mainstay.

In the games this season that he wasn’t sent off from, Green was playing an average of almost thirty minutes each.

Cutting five or ten minutes is not very long. You can’t claim that other people don’t deserve the minutes he would lose.

Green would only be the most recent of the Warriors’ seasoned players to step away this year. This season, Chris Paul and Andrew Wiggins have both come off the bench. A Warriors mainstay for the past five years, Kevon Looney is playing fewer and fewer minutes due to Jackson-Davis and Dario Ĺ arić’s superior play.

Green deserves his number in the rafters, a statue outside of Chase Center, and, I think, a jacket from the Basketball Hall of Fame.

However, given his play thus far in his career, he isn’t entitled to minutes that could be given to a player who is deserving of them.

Less might be more for Green.

His best ball might emerge in a smaller role with fewer center minutes.

In approximately a week, the Warriors should have a good problem if they can continue to play at their current caliber.

Perhaps this fake suspension and “return to play path” could lead to something real and constructive after all.
