Just in: Minnesota Vikings sign another quarterback from…

NaJee Thompson has lived up to his promise of becoming the Vikings’ special teams ace. This is precisely the kind of player Thompson predicted he would become during his Georgia Southern days.

Without a doubt, NaJee Thompson of the Vikings is the team’s fastest player. Growing up in his native South Carolina, he set the state record in the 200-meter dash, which explains why Thompson was recently caught running 22.6 mph during a game. “My whole life is just speed, speed, speed,” was how he expressed it.

On New Year’s Eve, Thompson made the most spectacular play for the Vikings in a forgettable 33-10 home loss to the Green Bay Packers, demonstrating his unquestionable speed.

Thompson didn’t let the fact that the result was predetermined affect his efforts. In punt coverage, he dashed downfield, applied pressure that caused a muff, and recovered the fumble. The Vikings scored their lone touchdown of the game a few plays later.

Undrafted free agent Thompson, who has emerged as the Vikings’ star on special teams, said, “I was locked in.” “I wanted to make sure they felt my presence and knew that I would be here for a very long time.”

The Vikings are back with Anthony Barr.

The Vikings practice squad has added the linebacker who Minnesota selected in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft, the team announced on Tuesday.

Barr made an impact both on and off the field during his first eight seasons in Minnesota.

He had 495 tackles (league stats), 39 tackles for loss, 44 quarterback hits, 17.5 sacks, five interceptions, 31 passes defensed, eight forced fumbles, and seven fumble recoveries in his 98 games with the Vikings. Between 2015 and 2018, Barr was selected to the Pro Bowl four times in a row.

His most well-known forced fumble and recovery led to the first fumble-return overtime score in franchise history—a 27-yard touchdown in overtime against Tampa Bay.

Vikings rookie NaJee Thompson makes his mark on special teams

The native of California founded the Raise the Barr foundation, invested in dreams, and supported families with only one parent.

Barr was chosen as the team’s Ed Block Courage Award winner in 2021 and was named the Vikings Community Man of the Year.

The Vikings said a tearful goodbye to Barr in 2022, pushing him up against the salary cap.

He ultimately signed a contract with the Dallas Cowboys, where he appeared in 14 games (10 starts). He recorded 58 tackles, two tackles for loss, four quarterback hits, one sack, one pass defensed, and two fumble recoveries in his one and only season there.
