Georgia football players departing the Bulldogs: a 2024 transfer portal tracker
On Monday, December 4, the NCAA transfer portal opened and six Georgia Bulldogs registered. On the first day of the transfer portal’s operation, over 500 players from across the Football Bowl Subdivision registered.
A lot of players will come and go from Georgia’s roster in the months leading up to the 2024 college football season. The Bulldogs have the top recruiting class of incoming players.
More playing time is the main reason Georgia players use the transfer portal, but some also want better deals involving their names, likenesses, and images. Top players are also being targeted by the Bulldogs through the transfer portal.
There are a lot of Georgia players in the transfer portal who have won consecutive national titles. The majority of them had to contend with intense competition to get playing time and will play bigger roles at other schools.
Which Georgia Bulldogs have already made an entry into the transfer portal? Although most players don’t return to Georgia on average, these players still have the option to do so.
Brock Vandagriff, the #2 quarterback for the Georgia Bulldogs, has logged into the NCAA transfer portal. This season, Vandagriff, a redshirt sophomore, participated in eight games for Georgia. For 165 passing yards and two touchdowns in 2023, the former five-star recruit completed 12 of 18 passes.
The departure of Vandagriff might indicate that Carson Beck will be back for a second season.
Jackson Meeks, a wide receiver for the Georgia Bulldogs, accessed the transfer portal. Meeks is Georgia’s best player on special teams. Meeks, though, struggled to secure meaningful playing time and targets in Georgia’s talented wide receiver group. Meeks has one more season of eligibility at his new residence after hauling in one catch for 23 yards this season.
After signing to play football for Georgia as a member of the 2021 class, Jefferson is in the portal. Throughout the 2023 college football season, the 6-foot-3, 295-pound defensive end participated in seven games.
This season, Jefferson only registered one tackle against Kentucky, despite not playing a lot of snaps. At his new home, the redshirt sophomore is probably hoping to get more playing time.
Due to injuries, Blaske, a former three-star prospect in the 2020 recruiting class, missed the majority of the 2023 campaign. He will be a valuable addition to another offensive line. In the preseason, he faced off against Earnest Greene for the starting left tackle position.
After the regular season ended, Georgia outside linebacker Darris Smith was the first Bulldog to indicate that he intended to use the transfer portal. In 2023, Smith had three tackles recorded. The long-sophomore was an Appling County high school football player.

CJ Madden was a four-star recruit when he arrived in Athens. In the 2022 recruiting class, Madden ranked as the 16th best edge and the 18th best player in the state of Georgia. He’s going to the transfer portal now.
Madden redshirted his first season and made seven appearances in 2023, tallying three tackles. He will be eligible for another three years.
Jared Zirkel, a kicker for Georgia, signed up for the transfer portal but still intends to play in the Orange Bowl. The Bulldogs’ kickoff specialist is Zirkel.
Nyland Green, a former five-star recruit in the class of 2021 and cornerback for Georgia, logged into the transfer portal. Despite participating in all 13 Georgia games in 2023, Green was not selected to start opposite Kamari Lassiter at outside cornerback.
