Head football coach Mike Norvell of Florida State says he’s staying and signs an eight-year contract extension.Football fans at Florida State can let out a sigh.

Mike Norvell, the head coach who brought the Seminoles back to national prominence, declared his intention to stay at FSU on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday.

Entering his fifth season, Norvell was thought to be the front-runner to succeed the great Nick Saban at the University of Alabama.

On Wednesday, Saban declared his retirement.

“What a great day to be a Seminole from Florida! With our amazing team, the #CLIMBContinuesGrateful to lead the #NoleFamily,” tweeted Norvell. We are grateful to @PresMcCullough, @SeminoleAlford, and @Seminoles for their unwavering commitment to helping us return to the TOP! Tallahassee’s future is bright.”

The school confirmed that Norvell and FSU have reached an agreement on an eight-year extension. As per Yahoo Sports, Norvell will receive an annual salary exceeding $10 million.

“We gave it everything we had and, unfortunately, did not have the opportunity to prove that we were the best team in college football this year,” Coleman stated. “I’m forever grateful for the fans, my coaches and my teammates who are now my lifelong brothers.”

On Monday, The Athletic became the first to report that Brennan was Arizona’s top target.

Over the previous four seasons, Brennan, 50, has led San Jose State to a 26-19 record and three bowl appearances. In 2000, during Dick Tomey’s final season, he served as a graduate assistant at Arizona and as an assistant at San Jose State for Tomey.

With 95 victories, Tomey, who passed away in 2019, leads Arizona’s all-time record.

Brennan coached receivers at Oregon State under Mike Riley and later Gary Andersen before accepting the position at San Jose State. 2013 Biletnikoff Award winner Brandon Cooks was coached by Brennan.

After completing his football studies at UCLA, Brennan worked as an assistant coach at a high school in Woodside, California.
