After three seasons at Texas, where he led the Longhorns to the College Football Playoffs in 2023 with one of the best defenses in the country, Davis has joined the LSU staff. Davis worked for the Longhorns for six years, from 2011 to 13 as the defensive tackles coach and from 2021 to 23 as the defensive line coach.

Davis was a member of the strength and conditioning staff when LSU won the 2003 national championship. He also played for the Tigers in the early 1990s and worked as a graduate assistant with the football program from 1995 to 1997.

Having produced some of the best defensive linemen in college football, Davis is returning to LSU. Davis has coached college football’s defensive line for 12 years, during which time he has produced seven all-Americans and 17 all-conference picks. He has coached players who have taken home the Outland Trophy, Conference USA, Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year, and Defensive Player of the Year honors. Additionally, he has produced finalists for the Nagurski, Bednarik, and Outland Awards.

T’Vondre Sweat, a unanimous all-American and the Outland Trophy winner as the country’s best interior lineman, and Byron Murphy, the Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year, were key members of Davis’ 2023 Texas defensive line.

The Texas defense limited opponents to less than 100 yards rushing in eight games in 2023 and gave up just 82.4 yards per game of rushes.

Davis has five years of NFL coaching experience in addition to his collegiate coaching background. He most recently served as the defensive line coach for the Detroit Lions from 2018 to 20. Additionally, Davis worked as an assistant defensive line coach for the Miami Dolphins in 2006 and as a defensive assistant for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2016.
