Kane Cornes, who was called a “shock jock” by the West Coast Eagles last year, has lit up the team. Adam Simpson blasted into Cornes’ “disgraceful” attitude to the fitness controversy.

After calling the team out on the matter last season, AFL pundit Kane Cornes launched an attack on the West Coast Eagles following comments made by coach Adam Simpson on the fitness of his players. The Eagles finished in 17th place in 2022 after being plagued by injuries even before the season started.

But Cornes had been harshly critical of the Eagles during a miserable season that supporters would hope was an anomaly; in August, he implied that West Coast players had arrived at training “not fit” and “overweight.”In reaction, Trevor Nisbett, the CEO of West Coast, called him a “shock jock.”

The Eagles enter this season in far better shape than they did the previous one, free of the injury dramas that marred it. But Cornes is furious because of acknowledgements from players like club captain Luke Shuey that criticism about their match fitness wasn’t entirely unfounded.

The former Port Adelaide star has taken advantage of Shuey’s admission to target players like Nisbett, a move that is expected to rekindle some of the friction between Cornes and the Eagles brass. Cornes called the club’s reaction to his remarks from the previous season “disgraceful,” claiming that the Eagles and head coach Adam Simpson had harmed themselves by failing to accept the situation they were in at the time.

We made some mistakes in our preseason, and I don’t think the players have been as hungry as I would have expected them to be,” Cornes told SEN WA. (Simpson should have stated). “Yes, there were mitigating factors; some of those were injuries they sustained, but that doesn’t absolve them of responsibility.”

Eagles “considering” firing coach in a matter of days, despite significant $6 million in costs amid horrifying lows

In a shocking story, former Collingwood president Eddie McGuire claims that the West Coast board is thinking of firing coach Adam Simpson, who is purportedly aware of the circumstances.

Additionally, McGuire revealed that Eagles CEO Trevor Nisbett would not pursue a contract extension past the upcoming year.

Since then, a number of publications, including The Age and the Herald Sun, have supported McGuire’s report, speculating that Simpson would leave before the season ends. The club board is anticipated to make an announcement shortly.

With a 2-19 record and a 50.6 percentage, West Coast appears set for this year’s wooden spoon, currently occupying the 18th spot on the AFL ladder. Premiership coach Simpson has been under a lot of pressure because of the club’s dismal record, but he has openly affirmed his commitment to steering the team through the rebuild.

The board’s perspective of the coach has changed, though, as a result of the Eagles’ 101-point derby loss to Fremantle, their biggest-ever derby loss and fifth defeat of 100 points or more this year, according to McGuire.

Speaking on Channel 9’s Footy Classified on Wednesday night, McGuire revealed that Nisbett, who has been the Eagles’ chief executive since 1999 and a member of the team since 1989, was not looking to extend his contract. He also stated that he would remain in his role until the Eagles have successfully advertised and hired a new chief executive.

Then, according to McGuire, West Coast executives were debating whether to fire Simpson, who has a lucrative deal with the Eagles that runs until the end of 2025.

McGuire told Footy Classified, “The big story is the broom is going through West Coast.”

“I can tell you that the board is thinking of firing Adam Simpson tonight. That’s the way it is.

After the Essendon game, everything appeared to be going smoothly, and they believed everything was coming together. However, Adam Simpson is aware of this because he has stated, “I want to know sooner rather than later,” and the complete humiliation of what transpired over the weekend against the Fremantle Dockers has brought this before the board.
