However, during Lillard’s tenure, Portland only advanced to the Western Conference Finals once and won just four playoff series. The team finished well outside of the playoff picture for the second straight year last season, going 33-49.

It will be a little strange to see Lillard back in a different jersey, Blazers coach Chauncey Billups acknowledged. However, he is pleased for his friend and accepts that it is time to move on.

“You don’t want to see him in that type of spot where we’re doing what we’re doing and he’s out there bumping and grinding and scrapping and clawing and getting 30s and 40s and we can barely win those games,” Billups stated, referring to the current state of affairs. “It was simply a difficult circumstance for him to be in. He never did, however, voice any complaints. He is merely a soldier. Every time he showed up for work, he gave it his all. I admire that quality in him.

With his newly formed team, which is in transition, Lillard is averaging 25.1 points and 6.8 assists. Adrian Griffin was fired earlier this week, and Milwaukee announced on Friday night that Doc Rivers had been hired to take over.
