Kane was originally predicted to miss three to four months after surgery.
Against the Kraken, he played 17 minutes on the ice and took two hits and seven shots.
“It felt good. Other than my [lack of] finish, no problems,” Kane remarked. “I suppose I shouldn’t have high expectations. However, I looked good tonight, so that’s something. All I can do is try to expand on that.”
The Oilers (25-18-3) also had goals from Connor McDavid, Derek Ryan, Warren Foegele, and Ryan McLeod. This was only the second victory in their last eight home games.Jack Campbell stopped 29 shots.
The 29-assist career player Hyman stated, “I think the key thing is that we are happier with the way we are playing.”
“We are playing appropriately. We are performing well-developed third periods. The secret is to play to our strengths, make sure the other men on the opposite side have it rough, and recognize the kind of game you are playing when you are ahead. That is pretty optimistic, in my opinion.”
McDavid has 38 goals, which leads the NHL. He has now scored at least one point in 25 of his last 26 games, extending his point streak to eight games.
After an eight-game winning streak, the Kraken (26-14-4) have lost two straight games. Both Daniel Sprong and Vince Dunn scored goals for the team.
“We had a lengthy conversation before the game. Those two points were essential.
“We lost two games, but we had a strong run. We must return home and resume our work.”
3:11 into the first period, Seattle seized a 1-0 lead thanks to a power play goal from Sprong that deflected past Campbell, who was making his fourth consecutive start, after hitting a defender. Sprong’s goal was his fifteenth of the year.
With 5:52 remaining in the opening frame, McDavid raced coast-to-coast for Edmonton, taking on four players and dribbling past a couple of them before firing an off-foot shot that found the upper corner past goalkeeper Martin Jones.
3:15 into the second quarter, a rookie Vincent Desharnais shot got by Jones and was just sitting there when Ryan swooped in to guide in his sixth of the year, putting the Oilers up.
The puck broke loose to Foegele after a crazy scramble in front, and although he was sitting on the ground at the moment, he blasted a backhand into the net to give Edmonton a two-goal lead 12:30 into the second.
The third was underway with a handful more absurd goals.
At the exact moment of 22 seconds, Dunn unleashed a long shot that Campbell would have loved to have back, tipping it over his glove and into the goal.
But 61 seconds later, Eli Tolvanen of the Oilers poke-checked a puck past an astonished Jones and into his own net, answering for Hyman. Hyman’s 21st goal was given credit to him.
In the middle of the third period, McLeod scored an easy tap-in goal to make it 5-2 for Edmonton after Dylan Holloway hit a post. Holloway had his first multipoint game in the NHL with his second assist.
The Oilers’ coach Jay Woodcroft stated, “That was the 15th time we’ve scored five goals this year… and we haven’t lost when we scored five or more goals.” “It’s a plus that you could accomplish that at equal strength.
