Good news for South Carolina Gamecocks: He is back again..

I’ve returned: Again and again Gamecock Gilber Edmond discusses his choice.

Gilber Edmond was ready to respond to the question he knew would be posed to him. If he had refused the first request, it would have been simple to ignore the rest that were sure to follow, but he felt compelled to respond.

Few players better embodies the state of college football now than Edmond, a rising star pass-rusher at South Carolina in 2022 who remains the same in 2024. He was a promising pass-rusher for Florida State in 2023.

Edmond used the entrance and departure of the transfer portal, which has a door that swings both ways. He has a lot to answer for right now, even though returning to South Carolina might one day channel “Hail the Conquering Hero.”

“Health problems, family matters, and other such matters. In reference to his move, Edmond stated, “I simply wanted to be closer to home.” “I feel like I’ve stretched out and settled here at this point. Since this is where I wanted to be and where I wanted to finish, I feel like returning here is a breath of fresh air.

After picking up the phone, Shane Beamer started talking about a choice he never imagined having to make. Anybody can get in touch with a player after they enter the portal; Beamer was aware that Edmond was within, of course, but he had no plans to get in touch.

Beamer decided it would at least be worthwhile to give Edmond a call after learning that he was considering returning to USC. Never mind how Beamer said before the 2022 Gator Bowl that he had Gamecocks in the portal who still wanted to participate in that game and told them bluntly no, that they were in or out (he never specified), never mind the hurt that Edmond caused to leave in the first place.

Can he assist the Gamecocks? Indeed. And they could at least communicate if other conditions were met.

“I will never allow this to be a scenario where we say, ‘Hey, you guys go, come on back if it doesn’t work out where you are,'” he declared. To be very honest, there are some guys who have left the program, and if they called and said they wanted to come back, they would probably get a “Hell no” rather soon.

Edmond didn’t feel bad about himself on the phone since he didn’t think he did anything wrong. He needed to return to his Florida home due to family health concerns, and although Beamer stated he was positive NIL compensation was involved, speaking with Edmond gave him a great deal of relief.

The coach recalled how Edmond would never have to worry about missing a session or getting a late-night text message. He told Edmond he would need to follow up on a few other matters, which led to discussions with the team’s seven to eight seasoned leaders as well as additional staff members and coaches who would be in responsibility of Edmond.

Resentment was still present in some little measure. A small amount, but enough to keep the door closed.

using Edmond by his side, he returned and created a depressing image using the ugliest brush he could find. He would not receive even “proximally close” to the NIL he received at FSU if he returned.
