Good news:Washington Commanders announce superstar return..

Commanders formally bid Dan Snyder farewell and welcome the new ownership group.

The NFL unanimously decided on Thursday to authorize Dan Snyder’s sale of the Commanders to a new ownership group headed by Josh Harris, a co-owner of the Philadelphia 76ers.

For many Commanders fans, the sale process felt endless, even though it took less than a year—as News4 first revealed in April. After months of conjecture that Snyder may attempt to undermine the deal prior to its consummation, the sale has finally been officially announced. But for fans of Burgundy and Gold, it seems that the protracted nightmare is finally over.

Harris promised a new day and spoke about his lifetime love of Washington football in remarks made shortly after the sale was approved.

“To our squad and the amazing Washington football community: A new era of Washington football has arrived. It’s time to start working,” he declared.

A lot of admirers were happy to hear the news. Supporting Commanders supporters cheered during a “Burgundy and Sold” celebration at The Bullpen in the Navy Yard district of Washington, D.C., while sporting “Bye, Dan” T-shirts.

A devoted Maryland supporter remarked, “The last game I went to, I thought I was at an away game instead of a home game,” citing all the Green Bay Packers cheese heads he encountered. This needs to be turned around. Commanders, let’s move on!” he exclaimed.

When word eventually leaked out about the sale, aficionados at Ashburn, Virginia’s Old Ox Brewery, dressed in burgundy and gold, rejoiced. They drank IPA called “Bye Dan.”

Shortly after the Minneapolis vote, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell issued a statement congratulating the new ownership group.

The announcement said, “Congratulations to Josh Harris and his impressive group of partners.” “The NFL will benefit greatly from Josh’s arrival. He has an outstanding track record in athletics, business, and his communities. We welcome Josh’s varied group to the NFL and commend them for their exceptional commercial skills and strong Washington connections.”

“I met Josh several years ago, prior to his acquisition of an interest in the Steelers and have been fortunate to get to know him better over the past few months,” said the statement. “I know he has a commitment to winning on the field, but also to running an organization that everyone will be proud of — and to making positive contributions in the community.”

Dan Snyder to be discussed by NFL owners at upcoming meeting

As the primary owner of the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers, the NHL’s New Jersey Devils, and the English Premier League’s Crystal Palace soccer team located in London, Harris has legitimate credentials.

He’s connected to the D.C. region as well. Harris was educated at The Field School in the District while growing up in Chevy Chase.

The billionaire owner of private equity also has a slew of excellent partners at his disposal, including longtime Harris colleague David Blitzer, Magic Johnson, and Mitchell Rales.

Snyder’s resume is nearly as awful as Harris’s, despite Harris’s boastful resume.

The football team’s on-field performance plummeted throughout his tenure.

Before the 2000 season, Snyder assumed total ownership of the team, having purchased it in 1999. Snyder’s Washington teams have a dismal 154-214-2 record since 2000, having lost 60 more games than they had won. In 23 seasons, they have only managed one postseason triumph.

This is in contrast to the 20 years before Snyder took over as owner, during which time Washington was among the top teams in the NFL and made four trips to the Super Bowl.

Not to mention the plethora of legal actions, inquiries, and accusations made against Snyder, ranging from financial fraud to sexual harassment.

The summer of 2020 saw a number of Washington Post investigative pieces that led to significant changes for the Washington club. Following that, the group officially changed its name to Tanya Snyder, Dan’s wife and an advocate for breast cancer awareness.

Additionally, the NFL fined the group $10 million.

Johnson, Rales, and Harris have all expressed their excitement for the team’s upcoming moves.

“I want to express how excited we are to be considered by the NFL to be the next owners of the Washington Commanders and how committed we are to delivering a championship-caliber franchise for this city and its fanbase,” Harris said in May, speaking on behalf of his ownership group.

Magic Johnson tweeted the following in May as well: “I’m thrilled to be a part of the Washington Commanders’ proposed new ownership group. Josh Harris has put together an incredible team that is dedicated to making a difference off the field as well as on it.

Mayor of the District of Columbia Muriel Bowser tweeted, “Let’s win!” in response to the possible sale back in April, along with a picture of current team CEO and Super Bowl-winning quarterback Doug Williams from “Sports Illustrated.”

Following early rumors of a sale to the Harris group, a supporter called William declared to News4’s Tommy McFly in April, “I’m with my team if we’re winning or losing.” “That’s what you refer to as a devoted fan,”
