Sad news for Las Vegas Raiders: He will never play again..

Josh McDaniels’ poor choices resulted in the Raiders firing him; what comes next?Josh McDaniels’ final photo as an NFL head coach will come from Monday night.Deviver Adams of the Las Vegas Raiders found himself wide open for two long touchdowns against the Lions in the second half, but hand-picked McDaniels favorite Jimmy Garoppolo failed to connect on all of his attempts.

Under intense pressure from Aidan Hutchinson, the first went two yards out of bounds. The second found its way two yards beyond Adams’ reach. The standout wide receiver stormed to the sidelines, forcefully banged his helmet against the bench, and made it clear he was fed up with what I can only describe as the Raiders’ ordeal.

After a full day, it became apparent that Mark Davis had become weary of the same encounter as well. Less than two seasons into a six-year contract, the Raiders owner abruptly dismissed McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler on Tuesday night, ending the former Patriots coordinator’s head coaching position after 25 games.

After finishing 11–17 in 28 games with the Broncos (2009–10), where he was also dismissed midway through his second season, McDaniels finished 9–16 in his Raiders tenure.

Based on their past performance and current season, McDaniels and Ziegler were undeserving of their dismissal. Yes, they’ve been mediocre, but plenty of coaches have performed worse before getting better. Jon Gruden was not fired by Davis when he began 11–21 in

Throughout his first two seasons with the 49ers, Kyle Shanahan was 10-22. Dan Campbell began his Lions career 4-19-1, handing McDaniels his final defeat. From then on, he’s gone 13-4. Many instructors have started out slowly before turning things around.

Rather, there is a stronger argument for dismissing McDaniels and Ziegler. Over the course of their first two years in office, I doubt that any coach and general manager have ever made as many poor mistakes as the now-fired Raiders duo.

They all make mistakes, and it’s simple to make corrections in retrospect, but many of their choices seemed bad at the time. Chronologically going through them provides us with a quick overview of the regime’s history.

You could argue that Vegas’ fall over the last two seasons has been even more dramatic than a mediocre win-loss record, depending on how you perceive the team McDaniels inherited. The Raiders of 2021 advanced to the postseason!

To sneak into the postseason, Las Vegas won its final four games, including the historic overtime victory over the Chargers in Week 18. There, it fell behind the Bengals 20–6 before mounting a rally and setting themselves up for the game-winning touchdown, but Derek Carr’s interception on fourth and goal sealed Vegas’ season.

The Raiders players pushed for Rich Bisaccia, the interim coach, to be appointed after and before the team’s defeat. After dismissing general manager Mike Mayock, Davis brought on McDaniels and Ziegler. After that, Bisaccia joined the Packers as their special teams coach.

The most crucial error made by McDaniels and Ziegler was their poor self-scouting performance. Indeed, the Raiders finished 10-7 and advanced to the postseason. However, a closer examination would have shown something different.

The Raiders were among the luckiest teams in the NFL in 2022, as I stated prior to the McDaniels signing. Despite losing 10–7, they were outscored by 65 points. In games decided by seven points or fewer, they had a 7-2 record.

They defeated backup quarterbacks Nick Mullens and Drew Lock as well as Colts quarterback Carson Wentz, who had returned from the COVID-19 list hours prior to the game, during their four-game winning streak that concluded the season.

Following years of awful draft selections and trades during the Gruden/Mayock era, their youthful core was largely absent. The Raiders had to start over.
