I wish to return back to Washington Commanders: Sad news..

Could Commanders Go Back to the Site of RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C.?
It might be only one step closer for the Washington Commanders to return to the nation’s capital.

Since 1996, the Washington Commanders’ team has not called RFK Stadium home. Even the days when D.C. United and the Washington Nationals played at RFK, which opened in October 1961, are long gone. And that gave rise to the notion of tearing down the stadium to make room for the construction of a cutting-edge building.

Indeed, according to Meagan Flynn and Sam Fortier of The Washington Post, Republican representative for Kentucky’s first congressional district, Rep. James Comer, is planning to file legislation allowing the construction of a new field on the property where RFK Stadium currently stands:

“A House Oversight Committee spokesman confirmed Thursday that Comer (R-Ky.) is preparing the legislation that could allow D.C. to develop the RFK site, which is on federal land, although he stressed it would not be a land sale,” according to the Washington Post. “The spokesman, Austin Hacker, said that details of the legislation have not been finalized and that talks are ongoing with Mayor Muriel E. Bowser’s office.”

The approval of Josh Harris’ group’s acquisition of the Commanders from Daniel Snyder will be decided by the 31 other NFL owners in a vote scheduled for July 20. It is necessary for 24 out of the 31 owners to vote in favor of the sale for Harris’ ownership group, and there is no reason to think that won’t happen.

Securing a new stadium will be one of the Commanders’ primary macro challenges, while finding a franchise quarterback and determining if Ron Rivera is the team’s long-term coach are the micro issues Harris, if approved, will inherit. Many people consider FedEx Field, which debuted in 1997, to be the worst stadium in sports.

It is unclear where a new stadium may be built and which governments would be requested to provide tax dollars. FedEx Field is situated in Landover, Maryland, and certain areas of Washington, D.C. are more than 30 minutes away. Playing home games in the district makes sense for a squad that is supposedly from Washington. The football team’s return home may be facilitated by this bill.

Commanders top wide receiver responds melancholy when questioned about 49ers culture following Washington’s eighth consecutive defeat

Over the past few months, the Washington Commanders’ 2023 campaign has become worse before becoming better. After conceding at least 27 points in each game, Washington has now lost seven consecutive, and quarterback Sam Howell’s early promise has diminished.

The Commanders’ record dropped to 4-12 on Sunday when they gave up a 27-10 victory to the San Francisco 49ers, who were led by their former No. 2 overall choice, Chase Young, to secure the conference’s top seed. Wide receiver Terry McLaurin of the Commanders bemoaned this after the game, saying that these two teams are obviously on different ends of the NFL spectrum.

McLaurin gave a somewhat depressing response when asked how hard it was to watch players he knew playing for a Super Bowl while his Commanders are out of the playoff picture (via The Washington Post).

Since being selected in the third round of the 2019 draft, McLaurin has been one of the Commanders’ few shining lights. Despite having three consecutive seasons with 1,000 yards, his 2023 average of 59.1 receiving yards per game is a career low. When McLaurin entered the NFL, he went from being a college football champion who had only lost six games in four years to a team that had not finished with a winning record in seven seasons.

This offseason, Washington finally received the ownership shift that the supporters have long been waiting for, but the result has not been increased on the field. Josh Harris will have to make some choices this offseason about his quarterback, Howell, head coach Ron Rivera, and general manager Martin Mayhew.
