Sad news for Auburn Tiger: I want to leave…

Deshaun Davis is aware that the three seniors in the linebacker room are done for now. There are only so many practices and games left where they can don the Auburn jersey, because once it’s over, it’s over. You cannot get it back.
Knowing that it would be his final “first Tiger Walk” of his Auburn career, Davis took a video of Tiger Walk at the first home game of this season.

“It’s scary because our time at Auburn is winding down,” Davis stated. “Those days are not coming back. There won’t be another autumn camp. There will never be a winter workout or anything similar to that. Jordan-Hare, our games are coming to an end.

It’s a satisfying feeling in addition to being the result of our labors. The opportunity to position ourselves for the NFL draft, to have a championship-caliber team that can contend for victories, to be among the nation’s best defenses, and to have one of the greatest linebacker corps in both the SEC and the nation.
“Everything that we’ve always wanted is right in front of us.”

The triumvirate of Montavious Atkinson, Davis, and Griff Williams was not expected to reach this stage. All their lives, they have been underestimated or underappreciated. What keeps them from becoming among the top linebacker units in the nation, contending for a title, and possibly playing inIt makes perfect sense that their position coach dubbed them “Three the hard way.”
“We’re coming hard, with three seniors,” Williams remarked. “Any means necessary. We want to do all it takes to succeed and complete the task at hand.”

It’s possible that Davis doesn’t match the standard NFL linebacker model. Not only is he not 6-foot-3, but it’s unlikely that he will post a 40-yard sprint time of 4.4 or 4.5. However, Davis provided another player to consider as he finished with a game-high 13 tackles, four tackles for loss, a sack, and two quarterback hurries for the NFL clubs that traveled to LSU last week to scout Devin White.

According to Travis Williams, the coach of Auburn’s linebackers, “I would take Deshaun Davis tomorrow.” “I am aware of what to expect. He plays football and has a high football IQ.

“He will be 5-11 every day of the week and run a 4.6 every day of the week. However, he is a wonderful football player, and I believe he has played well while carrying a grudge. He is the kind of guy Auburn has always relied on—a linebacker. The NFL will see him play. He’s just very intelligent. His football acumen is unmatched.”

All of that changed in 2016 once new defensive coordinator Kevin Steele took over and discovered the team was short on linebacker choices. The previous season, both Kris Frost and Cassanova McKinzy had moved on. Davis started the opening game for Auburn that season against Clemson since no one else was available.

“If you remember, the [linebackers] we’re playing with now – put Tre’ Williams with them and that’s all we had,” Steele stated. “So you’ve got to become a good player.”

In the Clemson game, Davis had five tackles, twice harassed the quarterback, and broke up a pass. He has started every game for the Tigers since then, and heading into this season, he had 150 career tackles. After the first three games, this
Davis declared, “I’m not a 6-3 linebacker.” “I also won’t be running a 4.5. With my knowledge of football, the game, and the NFL, I’m already behind schedule.
Because I know the game and am smarter than everyone else in the room, that’s how I’m going to stay in the room. Say I run a 4.6 or 4.7 and you run a 4.5. Should I predict the direction of the ball before you do, it will appear as though I ran a 4.4. It’s not necessary to be incredibly quick. All you need to do is be swift enough.”
