The NFL said on Monday that Pittsburgh Steelers safety Damontae Kazee has been suspended without pay for the balance of the regular season, as well as any potential postseason games, due to repeated infractions of policies meant to safeguard players’ health and safety.
Michael Pittman Jr. was diving to try to make a grab when Kazee flung himself at his head during the second quarter of Pittsburgh’s Week 15 road defeat to the Indianapolis Colts.

Runyan wrote to Kazee that “it is appropriate to impose substantially greater penalties when players violate the rules intended to protect player safety on a regular basis, and particularly when the violations carry with them a significant risk of injury to an opposing player.”
The Steelers’ remaining regular season games against the Cincinnati Bengals, Seattle Seahawks, and Baltimore Ravens will be missed due to Kazee’s suspension.
Under the terms of the present collective bargaining agreement, Kazee may appeal the suspension.
Seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady responded to Kazee’s ban by suggesting that Gardner Minshew, the quarterback for the Colts, shared some of the culpability for the event in addition to the Steelers’ safety.

The Colts shut out Pittsburgh after leading 0–13 thanks to a strong defensive effort that included two picks of Mitch Trubisky and limited the visitors to 216 yards of total offense. Gardner Minshew, the team’s reliable quarterback, also contributed to the Steelers’ loss, throwing for 215 yards and three touchdowns.
