‘Not as Bad as It Looked, But It’s Not Good News,’ says Campbell about LaPorta
LaPorta’s availability for the postseason is questionable.
After the club defeated the Minnesota Vikings 30–20 on Sunday, head coach Dan Campbell of the Detroit Lions gave updates on the injuries of wide receiver Kalif Raymond and tight end Sam LaPorta.
Following an MRI, LaPorta’s condition was determined to have hyperextended knee and to have a bone bruise, citing a report released by NFL media on Sunday. Before the NFL postseason kicks off the next week, he is anticipated to lose a significant amount of time.
LaPorta sustained a left knee injury in the second quarter of Sunday’s regular season finale vs the Minnesota Vikings.
“To put it simply, the situation is not as dire as it appeared, but it’s still not good news,” Campbell stated on Sunday. “Well, it’s kind of in this; tomorrow, we’ll find out more. Though it doesn’t appear nearly as nasty as it did. However, this does not mean that it appears good right now. Kalif Raymond’s Leaf is somewhat in that similar universe.”
Raymond, on the other hand, was declared out after leaving the game in the fourth quarter due to a knee injury. By the end of the game on Sunday, he had two catches for fifty yards and four punt returns for a total of 89 yards.
In addition, Campbell expressed his belief that Brian Branch and Amon-Ra St. Brown will be well-prepared for the team’s postseason run.
“No, you wish to prevent injuries to men. I pray before these games every time for our men, and I did so last night,” Campbell said. Nobody should get injured, especially in a game like this. Once more, we employed Dan Skipper, or Skip, and we had two tight ends.
We so attempted to restrict our options, and as a result, a play was produced. And then, it’s much the same thing with Leaf. Toward the end, we made an effort to tend to Saint there. After you include Leaf in the game, though, Leaf sustains an injury. It’s a difficult situation, indeed.
LaPorta had an incredible rookie campaign and is among the greatest in history in a number of rookie-related categories.
With his first reception on Sunday, he broke the record most catches by a rookie tight end.
He also became the third rookie tight end in history to record 10 touchdowns on that reception, which resulted in a score. Along with Rob Gronkowski (2010), he was the only other player at the position to achieve that distinction, Mike Ditka (1961).
