Spurs point guard Tre Jones Responds to “Weird” Kings Loss
Following the San Antonio Spurs’ 131-129 loss to the Sacramento Kings, Tre Jones talked with the media.

The San Antonio Spurs’ emotional roller coaster of a game culminated on Thursday night at the Golden1 Center with a 131-129 loss to the Sacramento Kings.

With Victor Wembanyama out of the lineup, the Spurs were a severe underdog. And when the Spurs were behind by double digits in the first half, it seemed like that was the case. The Spurs were behind by as many as twenty points at one point, but they started to close the gap and took the lead early in the fourth quarter.

For the majority of the fourth quarter, the Spurs led; with less than a minute remaining, they were ahead by five points. But the Spurs were taken aback by a 7-0 run by the Kings in the last minute, which resulted in an early defeat.

After the game, Spurs point guard Tre Jones stated, “We definitely had the victory in our hands.” It’s a challenging one. We’re really behind. Simply persisted, fought our way back, took the lead, and managed to hang onto it. It was strange what actually transpired in the end, but we’ll just have to observe and see what takes place before drawing any conclusions.

Malik Monk, the guard for the Kings, tied the score with a 3-pointer during a transition in the last minute. Then, during the next play, Domantas Sabonis snatched a poorly executed pass from Malaki Branham and dashed off to score the game-winning dunk.

The Spurs, who lost their 50th game on Thursday, are no strangers to defeat; yet, just as they were in their previous 49 games, they must grow from this one and use their lessons in the next encounter.

Harrison Barnes (17 points), Keon Ellis (11 points), and Malik Monk (18 points, seven rebounds, nine assists), who made the game-winning three-pointer with 23.1 seconds remaining, were also in double figures for the Kings. Seeking an opportunity to put the game away at that very moment, Branham chose to throw a poor pass to Collins, which Sabonis easily intercepted and scored on the other side to secure the victory.

The Spurs host the Golden State Warriors on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. CT in an attempt to recover from one of their most devastating losses of the year.
