For the 2025 recruiting class, South Carolina football selects an in-state defensive end.
On Friday, South Carolina football secured their third match of the week.
Anthony Addison, a defensive end for Sumter High, pledged allegiance to Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks. He joins Abbeville safety Demarcus Leach, who committed earlier this week, and receiver Brian Rowe (of Concord, NC). Four players are committed to the Gamecocks for the 2025 class. In October 2023, South Florence wide receiver Jayden Sellers made a commitment to the Gamecocks.
Addison wrote on X (previously known as Twitter): “The top guys in South Carolina stay in South Carolina with that being said im staying home baby.”
This week, the 6-foot-3 Addison traveled to USC twice: first for practice on Thursday and again for the inaugural spring scrimmage on Saturday. In addition, he received offers from Coastal Carolina, Tennessee, Appalachian State, Cincinnati, and Duke.
Addison told Phil Kornblut last weekend, “Coach Beamer’s message is basically that the University of South Carolina’s got everything I need, so there’s no need for me to go out of state because South Carolina has it all right there.” They are recruiting me because they know that he wants to win with South Carolina guys. His desire to succeed with South Carolina boys is admirable. I like South Carolina because of this.
For its 2024 recruiting class, South Carolina signed five in-state players, all of whom had already arrived on campus and had begun spring practice. USC is considering a number of in-state 2025 possibilities in addition to Addison and Sellers, including AJ Brand of Irmo, Onis Konanbanny of Heathwood Hall, Mike Tyler of Hammond, and Malik Clark of Rock Hill.
Addison is rated as a three-star talent by 247Sports and On3Sports, and he is ranked No. 5 in the state for his class. After finishing the previous season with 95 tackles, 26 for loss, and six sacks, he was chosen for the all-state team.

Ranking the football recruiting class for South Carolina in 2024
In the 2024 cycle, the football program at South Carolina attracted another class of top 20 recruits. How did they perform in each role?
We will evaluate the 2024 signing class of the South Carolina Gamecocks and give each position group a unique rating. We will tackle it head-on, dissecting the high school curriculum and transferring classes, assigning distinct grades to each position unit.
There is much space for improvement in the QB room. I give it a C+, although additional information about scholarship quarterbacks is needed. Recently, the Gamecocks added OU quarterback Davis Beville, a potential walk-on.
The team’s depth is unaffected by this addition, though, unlike if the Gamecocks were to sign Robby Ashford or Jordan McCloud as a third scholarship quarterback. I could picture this room being upgraded much further in that scenario.
