HOT NEWS :2024 NRL Signings Tracker: Keary to retire at season’s end

Roosters five-eighth Luke Keary has announced that he will retire from rugby league at the end of the 2024 NRL season.

“After 12 seasons and 27 years playing the game I love, I have decided this will be my last and that I will be retiring at the end of the year,” Keary said.

“It’s a decision I have had thought long and hard about and I know it’s the right one for me and my family.”

Keary made his NRL debut with the South Sydney Rabbitohs in Round 9 of the 2013 season, playing 63 games. Player number 1167 for the Roosters, Keary made his club debut in the opening round of the 2017 season.

To date, he has played 149 NRL games for the Roosters, won two premierships (2018, 2019) and two World Club Challenge titles (2019, 2020). He has also won a Clive Churchill Medal (2018) and was named Player of the Match in the 2020 World Club Challenge.

Meanwhile, Broncos hooker Billy Walters has signed a two-year contract extension remain with the club to the end of the 2026 season.

Walters has played 35 of a possible 36 games since the start of the 2023 season, crossing for eight tries and joins a host of teammates to commit to the club long-term.

“I’m super stoked to stay – I didn’t want to go anywhere else and the club was happy to keep me, so it’s a good result,” Walters said.

The club have also announced the signing of former Cowboys forward Jack Gosiewski, who was granted an early release from North Queensland on compassionate grounds. Gosiewski appeared in 13 games for the Cowboys after arriving in North Queensland prior to the 2023 season.

Wests Tigers have announced the signing of off-contract Penrith winger Sunia Turuva on a three-year deal at the end of the 2024 season.

“Sunia is a great signing for us as a club moving forward,” Wests Tigers coach Benji Marshall said. “He is a premiership winner and a genuine footy player who also has great versatility.”

Dolphins lock Max Plath has signed a contract extension through to the end of 2027 while the club has also announced the signing of back-rower Kulikefu Finefeuiaki from 2025.

Plath played two games late last season and has now entrenched himself in Wayne Bennett’s top 17 with some quality displays in 2024.

Finefeuiaki has agreed to a three-year deal with the Dolphins that will allow the Ipswich Jets product to return to south-east Queensland.

The Sea Eagles have announced the release of second-rower Josh Schuster from the final three years of his contract. Signed until the end of 2027, the 22-year-old Manly junior will now explore other opportunities in his career.

The 22-year-old scored five tries in 50 games for the Sea Eagles after making his NRL debut for Manly in 2020, however hasn’t featured in their top grade since Round 25 last year.

Panthers SG Ball halfback Jett Cleary has signed a three-year contract with the Warriors from next season. The 19-year-old son of former Warriors and current three-time premiership-winning Penrith coach Ivan, and brother of Nathan, will join fellow Panther James Fisher-Harris at the club from next season.

The Auckland-born playmaker has come through the Pathways development system where he has starred in the Harold Matthews and SG Ball teams and will join the Warriors on a train and trial in 2025 before graduating to a development contract.

“He will give us some extra depth in the forwards and if he puts the work in then I’m sure he will get some opportunities as we move into the season,” coach Kevin Walters said.

The news comes after Kiwis captain Fisher-Harris announced he will leave the Panthers to return home to New Zealand after signing a four-year deal with the Warriors from 2025.

Promising back-rower Heilum Luki will be a Cowboy until at least the end of the 2029 season, after agreeing to terms on a new five-year deal with the club.

The Cowboys also announced the signing of utility Karl Lawton for 2025 and 2026, as well as the immediate signing of Bulldogs forward Harrison Edwards.

Cronulla co-captain Dale Finucane announced his immediate retirement from rugby league after a decorated 251-game career. The tireless forward has battled injuries over the past three seasons since his move from the Storm at the end of 2021.
