Breaking News: New York Giants Announce A Superstar Return…

An insider with knowledge of the matter told NorthJersey.com that Adoree’ Jackson is returning to the Giants. NorthJersey.com broke the initial news of the signing on Friday night.

With Jackson coming back for a one-year contract, the Giants are filling an experience gap in the secondary.

Jackson did not have a terrific 2023 because he bounced inside to the slot early in the previous season. Though it was reported as such, the move was actually to give the Giants an opportunity to match up against Cowboys star CeeDee Lamb and other elite wide receivers who line up all over the field, rather than strictly to make place for sixth-round rookie Tre Hawkins on the outside.

Jackson and Tae Banks, who is back for his second season as the team’s best cornerback, were the Giants’ two cornerbacks when they were on the field. Throughout the season, Jackson experienced a number of strange incidents, such as the story of the broken helmet buckle at Miami, which prevented him from being on the field for Tyreek Hill’s long score to start the second half of the blowout.

Jackson, who turns 29 in a month, sustained various injuries during the season, including a concussion that kept him out of two games. Jackson was a part of the defense’s problem with missed tackles, and there were also some difficult moments along the route.

Having said that, Jackson’s presence is definitely helpful when Cor’Dale Flott and Nick McCloud, who have combined for 24 career starts, are fighting for the No. 2 corner position. This is assuming Jackson is healthy and wants to be here, which seems to be the case. Over the course of seven seasons, including the last three with the Giants, Jackson has started 77 games.

In the event that Jackson’s one-year contract is advantageous—and it’s difficult to imagine it not being minimum with incentives related to playing time—the Giants gain an advantage over Banks.

While Jackson’s paths crossed with Giants defensive coordinator Shane Bowen in Tennessee, Bowen was the linebackers coach when Jackson was with the Titans and became DC during Jackson’s transition to free agency. Jackson has been very popular within the Giants organization and in the locker room with teammates. Wide receiver Darius Slayton praised Jackson on social media when news of his visit with the team broke Friday morning. It remains to be seen if Jackson can catch up for Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings on September 1.
