U2 Scores A Surprise New Radio Hit….

     U2 Scores A Surprise New Radio Hit….

U2 has spent much of the past several years looking back, as opposed to only to the future. The group has doled out plenty of collections of older material throughout the last several months, and they sold out their Las Vegas residency, which saw them playing fan-favorite tracks from their decades-long time together at the newly-erected Sphere venue

The Irish rockers have another retrospective project in the works, as they’re planning on releasing a companion project to their critical and commercial juggernaut How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb in just a few months. That upcoming set, which will be titled How to Re-Assemble an Atomic Bomb when it arrives in a few weeks, has already produced one minor hit, which perhaps even the band wasn’t expecting.

“Picture Of You (X+W)” was released in late September as the first taste of their forthcoming album, and it’s clear that interest in all things U2 is still high. This week, the track debuts on one Billboard chart—and it’s one that seems like an unlikely starting point for the cut.

U2’s latest offering opens at No. 50 on the latest edition of the Rock & Alternative Airplay chart. It’s common for brand new releases from well-known musical acts to perform well on sales, or even streaming lists, as they are completely powered by fans. Radio rosters are tougher to crack, as they require support from DJs and programmers, who must get on board and put the tune into rotation. The rockers’ latest doesn’t appear on any list, other than the one airplay roster.

“Picture Of You (X+W)” marks U2’s first new hit on the Rock & Alternative Airplay tally since last year. In 2023, their single “Atomic City” became their biggest smash ever on the radio list. It rose as high as No. 5, giving the Grammy champions their first top 10 win.
